Title: What if both partners have hep B?
Post by: Iliaccrest on August 21, 2018, 07:27:21 pm
Hi,

I'm new to this from and recently diagnosed as possible chronic hepatitis B carrier.
I say possible cos at my 6month mark the Dr said my viral load was 11(i have no idea what that means in the scheme of things)
They wish to repete another viral load in 3 months as they said some people do clear the virus past 6months (not sure how much I believe this)

I'm female 28 and work in the fitness industry. I live a very healthy life style but did have the few weekends when I would do plenty of tequila shots

I believe I got this off my partner at the time and I'm curious to know if both partners have this disease and continued to sleep together would that make the virus worse? As before I was diagnosed we had a very active sex life.

Since knowing what I have I ended my relationship.after my 3month check up all the Dr's felt confident that I would beat the virus and I did too

Recently I started dating again about a few weeks before my final 6month check up I was so confident reading that only 5-10% of people get the disease permenatly and with my healthy life style, young age and Dr's confidence.

This was a few dates in with the new guy and since getting my results I told him straight away.he was fine and supports me but I believe I have depression I have had depression in the past but this is different like I don't feel depressed. I feel emotionally detached from everything, I find it hard to concentrate, I don't feel sexy, I stay in my own head and cry randomly and I'm not sure the best way to overcome this type of depression

The only thing that takes my mind off things is going to the gym but once that is done I'm back to square one

So in a nutshell

Can sleeping with someone who also has hep b add to the viral load?

And how do you cope being so detached/depressed and form healthy relationships?

Sorry for any ignorance and thanks for any advice.

No, it cannot. Hep B can be sexually transmitted so you should use barrier protection and follow your doctors advise and recommendations to avoid transmitting hep B. But once you have hep B it is the replication of the virus inside your body that changes your viral load. The amount of virus to start an infection is not a large quantity of virus particles.

And how do you cope being so detached/depressed and form healthy relationships?

This is a challenge you may want to speak to a counselor. Living with any illness especially one that is stigmatized by society can be depressing. A counselor should be able to help you gain coping skills with having an illness.

Best of luck
