Title: Hep C, Maviret and Arthritis
Post by: PhoenixRising on December 10, 2018, 07:28:26 pm
I am starting week 3 of Maviret. Found out I had Hep C because of extreme joint pain without any substantial indications of RA (but did receive positive ANA, and RA and SLE run in my family). Does anyone else suspect Hep C kicked off an autoimmune arthritis for them? Since starting Maviret, arthritis is getting worse each week. Has anyone else gone through Maviret treatment and found it completely got rid of arthritis? Pretty depressing... :(

You are on the right track in that hep C is associated with arthritis, esp the autoimmune varieties. Although there isn't any research showing that Mavyret will make this worse, there have been a few reports of this on this forum. (Many people have the opposite effect, and feel better on treatment.) However, what we do have is evidence that hep C-related arthritis goes away after treatment.

One thing to keep in mind is that arthritis is worsened by winter cold and by inactivity. Considering that you started Mavyret 3 weeks ago, do a little investigating and see if you are less active or if temps have dropped where you live - those may be more likely to be the cause.

Activity (yoga, walking, indoor swimming, Pilates, Tai Chi, etc) may help.
