Hello,
I am 29 years old. I found out I had hep c when I was going to the fertility clinic to try and get pregnant. My mom has hep C and I was born with it. I got a liver biopsy and showed almost no damage and my Fibrosure test came back no damage. Before treatment my liver enzymes were in the 200s. I have always lived a very healthy life style and I am an avid runner.
I tested positive for genotype 3 and my viral load was 1 million. I did get a liver biopsy before treatment because the doctor thought it was odd that my liver damage through the blood test came back so low but my inflammation/enzymes was so high. He tested me for a bunch of auto immune and that came back negative.
Half way thru treatment my enzymes came back perfect. ALT/AST in the 15 range. The thing that concerns me that 1/2 thru treatment and at the end of treatment my Viral Load said this:
Component Your Value Standard Range
Hepatitis C PCR Quantitative HCV RNA Detected, <12 IU/mL IU/ML <12 IU/ML
My result came back as HCV RNA Detected, <12 IU/mL IU/ML.
The test method detects HCV viral load using the Abbott RealTime assay.
Please correlate results with the clinical status of the patient.
My Log 10 also came back within the standard range:

Log 10 HCV <1.08 IU/mL <1.08 IU/mL
The doctor said that it probably wouldn't get better than this and the nurse said the below:
"The viral load is undetectable. That is very good. It means that our machines in the lab cannot detect any copies of the virus."
What makes me nervous is that the result had the word "Detectable" in it. Should I be concerned? He said this test is stronger than some of the others?
Also, since starting treatment I have horrible right stomach pain and sometimes it radiates behind my back. It feels sharp and inflammed at times. I got a CT Scan and other than a 1 CM cyst on my liver everything came back normal...Did anyone else get bad right side pain below liver during and after Mavyret treatment?
I am getting therpay because I have PTSD from all of this so it could be somatic but I highly doubt that. Also bad IBS (constipation) and acid reflux. Never had it before until starting mavyret. Sometimes I wonder if I have right stomach pain near my liver due to the biopsy, or if the hep c is coming back...not sure. Never had this type of pain before. CT scan showed no stones or biliary issues...

Some people have been weakly detected on treatment and even at end of treatment and at 4 weeks post. The only test that matters is the 12 week post treatment test. If you are not detected at 12 weeks post treatment you are considered cured. If you have a high viral load after previously having a result like your current test or not detected on treatment that would be concerning but very rare. But beyond that on treatment testing really only confirms patient compliance.

It is hard to read your result. Was your end result worse than mine and you got cured?

My result was “HCV Not Detected” your result does appear to say “detected”.
Specifically, “HCV RNA Detected, <12 IU/mL IU/ML” would mean hepatitis C DNA was detected but at less than 12 IU/mL read as less than 12 International units per milliliter of blood. The <12 IU/ML is the sensitivity of the test the lowest number the test can detect. So if say you had 10 IU/ML or 3 IU/ML you would have the same reported result. If it was more than 12 then there would be a number like say 50 IU/ML. Look at your pre treatment viral load to see the differences.
I don’t think the log stuff on your report is your results only the reference range, the sensitivity of the test.
If you look up dragonslayer he was detected at EOT and also at 4 weeks post but went on to be not detected at 12 weeks post and remains cured today
We think maybe is it broken pieces of the virus being picked up that maybe haven’t been flushed out of your system but that is just a guess. The only test that matters is the 12 week post treatment test. Try not to worry about it until then

Hi Christina. I wouldn't worry too much about your End Of Treatment viral load showing detected by < 12. I think you'll find that by 12 weeks post treatment you are undetected. I know it's hard not to worry until you have those final numbers. But odds are very much in your favor that you will be undetected by 12 weeks post treatment.
