Title: Specialist for Hep c
Post by: dukenukem66 on June 24, 2020, 08:44:47 pm
Hello all,

I was diagnosed with hep c on June 10th.  I have my 1st appointment with a specialist scheduled for July 8th.  I am seeing a Hematologist.  I haven't read anything about a Hematologist treating Hep C.

Has anyone else here had a Hematologist manage their Hep C infection?

Are you sure your not seeing a hepatologist?

Hemo refers to blood while hepa refers to the liver so a hepatologist is a liver specialist.

If your general practitioner is familiar with treating hep c you could see them if your case isn’t complicated. Other options would be an infectious disease specialist or a gastroenterologist (specializes in all things gut related)

Best of luck with treatment

Thanks for replying.

I am definitely have my first treatment appointment with a hematologist.  I will call his office tomorrow to make sure that the appointment wasn't made in error.

Different, but any doctor familiar with treating hep c can follow you. Do you have a low platelet count?
