Title: Free crack pipes to help stop spread of Hep C
Post by: diannastarr on August 05, 2011, 09:20:38 am
You can't make this stuff up.

Vancouver is spending $50,000 to provide free crack pipes as part of a new pilot program to stop the spread of Hep C among the drug using pop. People don't have enough money to feed their kids, schools are losing services and this is what we spend money on? What is happening to this world?

This sounds like the needle exchange programs that have proven successful in HIV prevention. I understand these are tough times but if we can slow the spread of Hep C the potential cost savings down the road is huge.

One of the biggest problems with today's society is the NOW mentality. All our Washington representatives only care about the next election. Someone needs to look at the long term picture and it sounds like Vancouver is giving it a try. $50k is small potatoes. Let them try it!

I love it. Out of the box thinking. Just what we need to kick this thing. I applaud Vancouver!!

I like the approach because it directly attacks the problem. So many just put their heads in the sand and pretend these problems don't exist. Or that they are easy to deal with by just offering superficial assistance.

The reality is these people can't and likely won't stop anytime soon. They have to really hit bottom before there is any hope. And at that without people who love them to help them they will just relapse.

This program faces those realities and offers a solution. Give them free/clean pipes so that when they hopefully are ready to try and quit, they don't have to worry about one more problem Hep C!!
