List of people with hepatitis C
« on: July 05, 2011, 05:16:49 pm »
I thought I had seen it all and then I came across this page on Wikipedia...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_with_hepatitis_C

So many people on this list are dead. Where are all those still kicking? Lets start up a campaign to get more celebrities on the list and help raise awareness!

My favorite: Ken Watanabe He was so cool in Last Samurai

Guess which rock star made this comment...
Quote
He claimed that he cured hepatitis C "just by being me".

That really isn't helpful information to be passing around. You wish more of these people would step up and make a difference.

I give credit to Gregg Allman. Some might say he is selling out to sign on with Merck but he has a real chance to make a difference and is jumping on it.

What's up with Pam Anderson?  Didn't she say she cured it with herbs or something?  And claimed she contracted it from Tommy Lee...then why doesn't he step up?  The problem with celebs having hep c is that once they go through the treatment they don't want to talk about it anymore.  Natalie Cole is all about her liver transplant and less about her hep c and now we'll never hear from her about hep c again.

The Body Shop founder Anita Roddick had Hep C.

Tainted blood: Anita Roddick died after contracting hepatitis C from a 1971 transfusion. Our special investigation reveals there could be thousands more victims
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2023207/Anita-Roddick-died-contracting-hepatitis-C-1971-blood-transfusion.html

Paper turns it into a cautionary tale and recommends anyone with a blood transfusion prior to 1991 (in UK) get tested ASAP.

This is all from a UK paper. Why don't we see this kind of thing in the US? Very disappointing how we keep our heads in the sand.

A bunch of new people have been added. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_with_hepatitis_C

Mickey Mantle is on the list. Some how I never equated all his liver problems to Hep C. I thought it was the drinking.

Anthony Kiedis of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers also has it. He would make an interesting spokesperson for some pharma company. I've never heard him talk about it before.

The former NY Mets pitcher John Franco who played 22 years in the major leagues, is now focused on raising awareness of Hepatitis C.

So refreshing to see someone who can make a difference stepping up!

Note the piece says he is not Hep C positive.

Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/bee-gees-singer-robin-gibb-diagnosed-liver-cancer-report-article-1.980780#ixzz1eXWjyw9N

if the cancer was caused by hep he could do a lot of good raising awareness. these are the kind of hi profile people who could make a difference if they came out and said everyone from my generation needs to get tested
