New Hep C Infections On the Rise For First Time Since Mid-'90s
« on: September 24, 2014, 01:38:12 pm »
When you look at the data, it appears that new infections are growing the fastest among America’s youth (people under the age of 30). Experts say rising prescription painkiller — and now heroin —epidemics are to blame.

Today, about 1 in 250,000 people in the U.S. contract hep C every year. That’s significantly up from back in 2010, when 1 in about 330,000 Americans were infected annually.

But the full picture of how all three epidemics are connected is surprisingly complicated. As are the steps that communities are going to have to take to help stem the tide of new infections. Click here for a full overview.

This is most likely due to the current heroin epidemic which is spreading across the country. I can't believe this generation resurrected this addiction from the 60's and 70's given all that is known about the ills caused by the white tiger.

The white tiger and her cubs (morphine, codeine, Oxycontin) are a big problem in Toledo. If it can't be injected, it's crushed and snorted - folks are sharing straws & needles all over the place. Makes me shake my head and shrug my shoulders!
