Hello Everyone and Happy New Year!! I am starting Harvoni today and need advice as to when is the best time to take the pills. Mornings or Evenings?? Do you take the pills at the same time everyday or does it really matter??

Thanks,
Lou

Hi Lou
a very Happy New Year to you. It seems like you're starting out on the right foot. I finished my treatments December 22nd. I was on the Sovaldi/ Olysio combination. In your Harvoni, contains Sovaldi, so I'm sure it's pretty similar to my treatment. I found it easier to take right at the time I ate dinner. It seemed easier and I did get tired so I just felt it was easier to take it in the evening and I always remember because I always eat dinner. It is best to take it at the same time everyday within an hour of the last time but definitely around 24 hours separation. It is very important not to miss a dose as the virus can become resistant. Good luck on your treatment best wishes... Sunrise

Hi Lou,

I take my dose in the morning, I think we all have our favorite time of day to take it. For me I take it a 9 am sharp every day, I have an alarm set so I never forget or let the time get away from me. It's worked out for me so far but many people also take it in the evenings. S/O had to be taken with food whereas food isn't required with Harvoni.

Congratulations on getting started on Harvoni; what an amazing way to start the new year.

Hi Lou,

Happy new year to you also, I like taking my magic bullet pill first thing in the morning. The time for me is 6:30  in the morning since i have to be at work at the same time every morning.  I like to make thing as simple as possible. I suffer from CRS (cant remember sh----) so i try to do things the same way every time.

remember think positive and drink lots of water.

Hi Lou. ...... I'm leaving for a vacation with 7 harvoni pills to go......that would have NEVER happened on the previous treatments......so for me to take a hiking trip for 7 days shows this drug is AMAZING!!!!!!

I take my pill after supper.   it doesn't matter when you take it.....just do a time that you will remember to take it.   Some people like to take it other times.....this has worked well for me.

Now..... if I can just NOT CATCH THE FLU or some bug on that airplane............worst part about traveling!!!

I'll be checking in until I leave tomorrow!

Harvoni ...... is a wonder drug!      I'm thinking super positive too that this TIME is the LAST time I'll ever be on treatment for HCV!!!!

We are gonna win friends!  Its our time!!!

This is my first post here. I'm so very grateful that my insurance approved Harvoni! I am 27, I have a history of opiate addiction (but have been clean 4 years), and I am a single mother to a wonderful little boy. :) I plan to start my medication tomorrow but I have read that it causes insomnia. I can see from this post that it also makes people tired. I intended on taking my pill in the morning since it sounded like (from other threads) that there was an energy boost but now I'm not so sure. I guess im just nervous. I'm glad I found this forum to help myself and others through this journey. :)

With some people saying it gives them a boost and others saying it tires them out, I think we can see the value of anecdotal evidence. Whenever I have questions about meds Im taking, I always go to the prescribing document .. Gilead has said take it once a day with or without food.. Thats it...  All other info you come across on forums is based on anecdotal evidence, and as we can generally see, there's not much consistency there.   So, take it when you want, once a day, and have a sure fire way of making sure you dont miss a day or take more than one a day. . My pet method is to take it in the morning and turn the bottle upside down after dosing, which signals me to not take it again that day..  Before bed, I remember to turn it right side up again so its ready for the next day.. Seems to work for me.. Everybody must find their own method.. As long as it works for them, that's all that matters.   Just for the record, I get zero energy boost from it, and while Im often tired, I chalk it more up to the 4 to 5 hrs of sleep per night I usually get, plus the 2 hr daily gym workouts. As for the little sleep I get, Im not going to say Harvoni is the cause because Ive had insomnia for years.    I always thought HCV was a contributor toward that,  however I think its more a symptom of cirrhosis, and since I have only minor liver damage, Im not going to blame it on that either..  Sometimes, stuff just is what it is!  And to the op, congrats on your insurance approval!!

Paul,

Thanks for the response. You are right and I appreciate the tips. I'm so excited to rid myself of this disease and move on. I'm going to go ahead and take it in the morning like I planned.

I wish you all the best in treatment :)

Hi,

I started taking Harvoni tonight 1/2/15 at 8 p.m.  No side effects at all so far, but I guess it is too early to tell.  My insurance co. approved me in one day and they found a grant for me, so I do not pay anything for my Harvoni. I am excited.
I feel my boat has finally come in.  I am F4, Stage I cirrhosis. Will be back to let you know how I am feeling tomorrow.

Cathy
