has anybody seeing this start harvoni when you were sick??something going on but dont know what? Docs are no help. Feel like UTI or? but know sign of infection in urine? so, should I start??who should I consult????and I cant wait!!!!!!want to start drug yesterday,,waited 12 yrs to start,,,but dont want to screw this up,,any advice I'd appreciate. thanks

I did the same thing, I wanted to start therapy with NO other stress on my body.
I was going to start on Dec 17th and than an upper root canal cracked just before Thanksgiving and infected my sinus. I had that pulled and used Friggy sinus flushes to get rid of the infection.

That seems like a really smart strategy, DisabledHepcat!   Once you have the entire Rx course in hand, you've eliminated all the stress of possible time-gap b/n months (due to insurance shenanigans).   I think I'll do the same thing (once I get my access approved, that is).

Yea, I'm on Medicare part D so every Jan 1st it resets so I had to pay the coverage Gap twice before I went into catastrophic bracket which is I only pay 5%, I was afraid my $10,000 Copay assistance from PAN would go over (it ended up around $8,500 copay so I paid ZERO $ for my Harvoni) Not to mention the mail order pharmacy told me they did not have a 2015 contract with United Healthcare yet so I might need to get my 3rd bottle from another pharmacy. The new contract was signed and everything worked out but how was I suppose to know it would work out, so I waited. I told the mail order pharmacy I was going to wait and like you they told me that is a smart ideal - they had no clue either what was going to happen Jan 1st - LOL

thanks for advice,,,did get antibiotic and will delay starting. how do I get my other mos??I only got one mo too. said cuz of insurance. I wonder. Specialty Pharm. said call when you have 2pills left for 1st mo, ya right. I plan on calling 26days from when it was delivered.  I should be all set for getting mo 2 but mo 3? don't want to wait that long 2 start. wondering if I should tell hepc doc anything. have to get blood work done etc. and see him at 5wks. I'll see him after I get mo 2. Don't really trust doc, pharm or gilead for that matter. they all care more about the $.,,, seems that way. I do want to give myself a while to get over taking antibiotic before I start the harvoni. Doc did say dont take it with antibiotic, so probably too hard on body, liver.

have a bad tooth too,,wondering if I should have it pulled first and not keep my fingers crossed like I was planning on? has anyone contacted the Gilead harvoni nurse line? was it or the nurse helpful? dont want my approval or insurance messed up,,dont trust things to go smoothly w/out problems,,never mind with problems,,I'm not pessimistic just realistic,,whatever, thanks

    Based on personal experience, I suggest getting the tooth extraction before starting treatment. In case of infection, which is always possible with extractions, best not to have the added burden on your immune system. Also, I had an extraction, then started treatment on S/O the very next day. I wish I would have waited at least a week before starting meds as the extraction was "uncomfortable" in itself, then adding the sides of meds , headaches, etc. made for an uncomfortable couple of wks. Best of luck on your treatment and your dental decisions.

My wife Helen had a ruptured appendix at about week 5 on Harvoni, I believe that this interfered with her treatment as she still showed detectable 22 at end of week 8.
She was in the hospital for 3 days on IV antibiotics and then another 10 days at home. On each of her two weekly VL test the numbers stayed at around 100 before the last at 22 started retreating, I have no knowledge if the antibiotics contributed to this or not, Dr. didn't seemed worried as she is on 24 week regimen. Looking for UD after week 10 this weekend.

I had 2 root canal teeth extracted the day after I began Harvoni on 1/8 but I went to a very good oral surgeon 100 miles away. Infections seem very unlikely if you do as they say and rinse your mouth out in warm salt water often and also use an anti biotic mouth rinse.
I didn't use the antibiotic rinse, I used salt water, my own colloidal silver, and oil of oregano, which both act like natural antibiotics, and my 2 sockets seem to be healing up well.

They told me I could get the extractions or other dental work during Tx, no problem.
I'd do it though because of the chance that Hep C could be harbored in bad teeth.
