Half way to SVR!
« on: January 31, 2015, 10:56:44 am »
Half way to SVR! I'm actually starting my 14th week of 24 of Sovaldi and Riba. I just got my 12 week lab results and all LF's are absolutely normal, still very anemic, but not feeling it, so doc isn't worried. Just told to eat more steaks! Lol. Best part I'm still UD! I'm feeling fairly well. Just a little itchy from time to time from dry skin. I know my color is off from the anemia, but hoping when I'm done with this and my HGB goes back to normal that I will be as bright as a lightbulb! The weeks seem to be going a little faster. Hope to slay this beast once and for all!
Best wishes to all for an everlasting SVR!!

Chris,

That's excellent news! For the dry skin you can try Aquaphor. It's pretty greasy like vaseline BUT it is amazing, maybe put on skin at night before bed.

I had a horrible very dry itchy rash from Olysio when I was on that and it's the only thing that would sooth it. During the day I used Emu Oil. It's another amazing moisturizer. I learned it that when one of my Best Friends was going through fill body radiation, it was the only thing we could find that actually helped her burnt dried skin. We did a ton of research looking for options and tried quite a few but Emu Oil was the winner by far! Seems a little greasy going on but quickly soaks into your skin. I used some on my hands and was amazed at how it helps dry skin so now I use it all over! You can buy it on Amazon, get the pure, plain Emu Oil. This one is our favorite (perfect texture) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DKGJQU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

SVR is heading our way!

Mel, you are such an excellent source for information! I never heard of the emu oil, but read the reviews on the link. Looks like this is a sure winner. I am ordering some. I see it's also excellent for nails. I always did have dry cuticles. Nothing really worked. Thanks so much!

That's so funny you say that because I think everyone else is so full of information. I totally love to find out how to fix things even dry skin :) All that kind of stuff is interesting to me and I love searching the web and reading reviews and details trying to find the best options. Crazy things you get into when you feel like crap for so long and have no idea why!

Kinda like how we become so knowledgeable about this dreaded virus in such a short period of time. I read and read and read! If I wasn't so dead set against letting anyone know what I have, I would be out there educating people.

I know how you feel Chris but I am kind of getting over the fear of that. Honestly the only thing I am concerned about is my job. Other than that I really don't care who knows I would be happy to be part of something that educated people about Hep C. How many other people from 40 and up are out there infected and have no idea?

Hi CE

Do you mean half way to end of treatment EOT?

SVR mean sustained viral response and is at some point after treatment has ended i.e. SVR 4, four weeks after EOT or SVR 12 which is considered cured by many or SVR 24 that the more conservative consider a cure.

I had the same idea about a year ago that EOT was SVR

Goid luck on treatment

Yes, Lynn, I'm halfway to EOT. Actually less than 11 weeks to go now. I guess I am just trying to be overly positive wanting it to stay UD forever! I do understand that SVR can only be realized after the 12 to 24 weeks after EOT. Thanks so much for your support!

Good luck yeah for he longest time I though SVR  was the term for finishing treatment so just checking.

I finish week 11 on Monday so right behind you.

I just started Ribavirin part way through my Harvoni treatment. I am about to Cindy week 2 of riba and have my first week labs that show the expected drop in HGB, RBC and HCT but still in normal range but low. He low did your levels get? Are they stable or do the keep going down?

I am kinda curious how long they take to climb back up after stopping the Riba.

Hoping all make SVR in 2015!

Lynn, my HGB dropped to 10.3! That was in the first 6 weeks. It has now stabilized and is staying at 10.5-10.8. Not very goid, but I'm none the worse with it. I'm really not as tired. The doc said if it goes below 10 or I become short of breath and extremely tired, then I would either need Procrit or a transfusion, and I want neither! I'm eating a lot of spinich and greens, fish, and trying to eat more red meat, something I am not real fond of. I hope this treatment works for you. It looks like you have been through hell. Best wishes to you.   Chris

Hi thanks for the info

My HGB was 13.7 now 11.9 with 11.1 min normal. Getting winded going up the stairs at my house a little.

When I treated with Riba in the past they put me on Epo and  I felt better immediately.

Thanks for letting be know the low end number is 10. I think I got as low as 8 when I treated before. I believe if my numbers get low my doctor will dose reduce since the riba is an extra for me anyway.

Best to you

@Lynn - your persistence and stamina fighting this beast with everything you have continues to amaze me. Here I sit whining about sciatica and it's nothing compared to your journey.

@Chris - keep going! I am not big on red meat anymore myself but there's always green shakes! You could even throw spinach or kale into a Strawberry Banana Smoothie.  Start with the new High Protein Yogurt, add in spinach or kale, maybe avocado then frozen Banana and Strawberry! You won't take the spinach or kale or avocado but it will be there!

@Red - I have this craziness in me and get on a mission. Helping a friend is really high on my list especially one that is more like a sister. Glad I can share what we learned on that journey here.

Hi Mel

Hey I am a pain wimp if I get tired from treatment I can always sleep hard to escape pain.

Personally that whole green smoothie turned my stomach inside out and would so prefer a nice rib eye. Watching the super bowl this afternoon beef it what's for dinner!

Lynn,

Me too with the Green Smoothies so I fake myself out with Banana and Strawberries and try to forget what else I snuck in there, extra strawberries help with the color. Pineapple is a really good flavor coverup as well! Oh and you can skip the kale/spinach or avocado all together and go get some decent protein shake powder at GNC :)

I don't know why the green ones bug me so much but they do so I had to find some creative ways to get the protein in without the GREEN color/texture.

Regarding sleep, it's either feast or famine with me and sleep. Then when I am finally sleeping really deep,  I can always count on my teen to wake me up because he can't find the toilet paper or his socks or something else not important. He's worth my lack of sleep though :)

I happen to eat a lot of avocados! I love them even plain! My daughter has a juicer and makes a lot of those green beverages. They actually taste really good.
