Color is OK - if you have hair loss (which is rare), it won't be because of damage done by coloring -and if you have hair loss, it won't happen until about 8 to 12 weeks - some people have it after they are done.

This is really good to know because I am in desperate need of a touch up! I forgot to ask the nurse at my appointment. I tried to squeeze in with my hair girl beforehand but she was booked solid! I am going to run it past my nurse just in case but this makes me happy :)

I understand Kate, I have thin hair to begin with, but have not noticed any more hair coming out than normal (thank goodness) and don't believe hair loss is a listed side effect for Harvoni.  Being treatment naive, I don't have that history but would probably feel like you if I did :)

I've had my hair colored twice since I started TX on 12/3, and am due again this month around the time my TX ends on the 25th.  I will comment that I have single process color done, so nothing as harsh as some procedures - don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Annie, my brother (younger) is totally grey, I decided to go blonde - guess which of us looks younger and better  8)  I'm not ready to go grey either and may never be :)  As crappy as I've felt lately, maybe I better get that next appointment sooner - just looked in the mirror and I need something to perk me up :o  Have a great day   ...Islandgirl

@islandgirl, i never thought i was paticulary vain but jeez no hair is bad lol, it didn't just get thin, i lost about 90% of it and it didn't stop for about 2 months after i stopped treatment. I guess i was lucky it was fall/winter so it wasn't hot wearing it (and it was kinda swingy and cute, but the best day ever was going to the hairdresser when it was just long enough to make it look like i wanted it that short lol, its crazy thick now (i took biotin the whole time), I'm not taking it now cause it makes me nervous to take anything, so it makes me just a little nervous as i didn't start losing it until i was almost done treatment the first time (agh something else to be anxious about). 27days and counting (sorry mario, i can't help it).

and PS @mario, i am going to the airport next week, i hope i don't get picked  ;)

Kate, I understand and would feel the same way.  I did make my next appointment today - for the 26th, day after my last pill 8)  I'll be sure to report back if it starts coming out.  Praying it won't happen for any of us.

You're coming to FL right?  We're a little colder than usual right now but there is NO SNOW!!!!  I'm on Anastasia Island, just off the coast at Saint Augustine.  I hope you will not get "picked", will have beautiful weather and an absolutely perfect time!  ....Islandgirl

Kate, it's 43 here now - probably a couple degrees warmer since I'm on the Island - looks like 50's/60's in my area during your trip.  I hate to show my ignorance (lol), but where is the marathon being held?  I'd have to limp or hobble with my bad ankle :)  You'll get your workout with the one year old, but I know it'll be fun :)

Thanks for asking about mom.  She's doing better but is in a lot of pain from her sciatica lately and I'm wondering if she needs another injection as her pain meds don't seem to be helping enough.  She gets a massage Monday so maybe that will help - while her knee/patella fracture was healing she wasn't able to have massage and this is her first since the fracture.  She's using enough Bengay that we should have bought stock in the company, lol

One of the hardest things during my treatment is trying to be patient with her and also not letting my moods, sides, etc., upset her.  She never even knew I had Hep C, or what it is, until Harvoni became available and I could at last be treated.  I'd just told her "I had a very sensitive liver"; there was no need to worry her.  At 91 she does pretty well, but she is extremely dependent on me and becomes fearful if she thinks she might lose me or something might reduce my ability to care for her.  It just struck me!  Your time will be dictated by a one year old and mine is dictated by a 91 year old!  I don't want to think about that too hard, lol :)  I'm grateful to have her but I have to say that I had no idea what the reality of being her caregiver would entail.  Still, I'd make the same choice.  Have a great weekend and safe, fun trip next week.  ....Islandgirl  (PS sorry for "venting")

Is the hair loss common? My hair is so short, I'd hate to lose any but if it happens.. then I'll live through it! : )

Another question.. I assume having your teeth cleaned is fine too?

Hey Willie,

Thanks for the laughter!!! 8)

It's 66 here on Anastasia Island/St. Augustine Beach, but I've lived in that cold before and have lots of sympathy for all of you who are coping with it (not so much for those with Brooms, though 8))

Thanks for the encouragement too, I'm on my last few days of my 12 wks, hoping I remain undetected, and have been having bouts of depression  lately.  I've been reading posts but not writing much myself (depression) - you made me smile and I'm thanking you for it.  Yes, it's worth it!  ....Islandgirl

Fantastic, Lynne!

I LOVE the Seattle area.  Before I retired I traveled the US with my job and WA and OR were two of my favorite states.  I took vacation in the middle of a business trip once and took the ferry over to Orcha Island and stayed at a small B&B, went on a whale watching boat - small one, not the "cattle car" type and the captain played the flute for the Orchas who played around our boat for a really long time - he also lowered a mic into the water so we could hear them calling to each other.  Side note :)  His sig other was a Shamman massage therapist so I booked a massage with her.  She beat the drum as part of the experience and also beat the hell out of my back to release any negative energy that might be there.  I was sorta glad when it was over :)  I loved the Island and my time there.  Thanks for triggering one of my favorite memories 8)  ...Islandgirl

Glad to help Islandgirl :)

Meridith

I had an upper endoscopy last Friday where they give you an IV and knock you out. Also had a teeth cleaning a couple of weeks ago. My doctor knew I was doing the endo I was a tiny bit worried because of the ribaviron making me anemic but my doc said not a concern.

I am guessing you don't require any meds before a cleaning like antibiotics some people have to take antibiotics before dental visits I think it has to do with heart problems.

I can't imagine how a teeth cleaning would be a problem but you could always call you doctors office

Meredith and Lynne,

I had 2 deep cleanings requiring local injection anesthetic while on Harvoni - my dentist knew I was on the med - and have had no problems at all.  I posted about it in response to another person's question earlier.  As Lynne said, best to check with your own doc as they know your full history, but I'd be surprised if there's a conflict.  Good luck!   ...Islandgirl

Lynn, my recollection regarding the antibiotics before cleaning had to do more with elevated risk for bacteria from things that have been implanted. A knee replacement is one example as I once told my dentist I was considering one. They ask me every time now if I have had one yet. As it was described to me by an Ortho Doc, bacteria tends to accumulate/hide in the tissue around the implant as a part of the implant rejection process. They load you up with antibiotics before the cleaning so any exposure to additional bacteria during end up being a tipping point. Hope that helps and please correct me if I an incorrect in understanding of what I have been told.

I was once thought to have a heart murmur which was later determined to be an "innocent flow murmur". I was told at that time if it was a heart murmur I would have to take antibiotics before dental treatments. So I gather there can be different reasons for antibiotic prophylaxis therapy before dental treatments.

OK found this looks like we are both right

http://www.ada.org/en/member-center/oral-health-topics/antibiotic-prophylaxis

 Antibiotic Prophylaxis

Overview

Antibiotic prophylaxis recommendations exist for two groups of patients:

those with heart conditions that may predispose them to infective endocarditis

those who have a prosthetic joints and may be at risk for developing hematogenous infections at the site of the prosthetic.

Awesome info Lynn, I like it when I learn something new. I will add the endocarditis to my reasoning. I used to be an IT guy doing a lot of problem solving daily. What I may have lacked in technical knowledge at time I made up for in tenacity. I love to dig into research!

Have a great day and take care of yourselves,

Hi everyone!! Lynn I am glad your procedure went well for you  : ) Hi AL : ) I USED to have to take an antibiotic before going to the dentist because when I was 9 I had rheumatic fever. In the last few years they stopped giving me the antibiotic. I think the info you found is accurate. I either didn’t have any side effects from the rheumatic fever or outgrew them I guess. I never had a murmur.

One thing though you mention people with implants like with the knees. I wonder if it applies to implants for teeth? I had one put in in December before the treatment started. I think it’s probably different? I’ll have to ask when they call to remind me of my appointment next week. I hate the thought of taking anything extra while on this treatment. I don’t think my teeth are that bad and its only been like 4 months since my last cleaning (I tend to ‘over go’) so there is probably not a lot for them to do… I hope!! : )

And talking about teeth cleaning. Am I the only one who has noticed how the price has gone way up on that procedure?!?!? Though I guess everything is overpriced anymore!! : )

hey MIKE and all fellow heper and heperless folks. WHATS CRACKIN?  my forehead and remember when you were a kid and you put your tongue somewhere it didn't belong? [don't go there ADULTS,i am talking about when you were a KID lol] like on a metal railing or maybe a bumper of a car [not while it was moving of course]    ya know that one time someone dared you and this was your first and LAST gig[but you passed it on because hey,,, an eye for an eye and smack for a smack, something like that] on a COLD COLD  day like Mikes 9 below ?  me being a fool [which barely happens, ha ha ] French kissed the railing and my lips and tongue went from size small to extra Large and wouldn't you know it this was 3 weeks after I met my first girlfriend and we had just started to get into the kissing thing[spooning as my grandma would say], well next day she broke up with me because she thought I either kissed Mick Jagger[no,affence but I don't swing that way, not even as a boy, hell I don't think I did lol] or I had caught a major case of herpes from Luann [she was the only one at the time that visualy had them and she used to hang out at all the truck stops]  SO of course I transferred to another school in another county,,, you don't want herpes on your resume, trust me, its like your on your third date as an adult and ya the third one was the HOT one and just because you had your annual physical and they did blood work and BINGO out of no where theres a message on your phone to please call the Dr. and by the time you get all done you find out you have HEPC,,,,,,,well as we all know that is definitely a resume crusher that all of a sudden turns your new love life into a nightmare as some of us know. sooooo here's the solution, you know how they have Christian mingle,,and find your partner sites well I have started a new web site, it opens like this 'HI ARE YOU having trouble of getting the right match because you have HEPC? well no worry my fellow hepers, just go to HEPER-DATE .com and you will see all kinds of people just like us?
like us !! gender doesn't matter ,we have em all, big and tall, fat and flat so just go there and leave your bloodwork results etc. etc. and WILLIE G'S Hep c, full confulldentyouality will get back to you within 5 days which gives you time to send your start up fee off 29.33,  why the 33 ,?well it rhymes with hepc[oh ya hep a, b ,c, d,e,f,g,h,and WHY are also welcome.   now you folks have a great week and remember once your not detected anymore please show results and we will remove your name which has been happening ALOT, so hang in there my friends   'just willie g'    YES it seems like im back around LUCINDA,, and its sad about SUs post season and one more thing my back porch caved in from the snow and I need a HIGH VOLTAGE electrican,,, any chances youll be up this way? and for you folks that don't know MRS.PORTERS story[shes a real electirican, seriously] she has two wonderful books out about her journey and great advice on this deadly disease. I got them the first week I was diagnosed [seriously] and they helped me a lot. amazon . com or your local book store   FAITH, HOPE, AND THE BEST''LOVE''

Good morning Willie,

Forget the 9 below. It was 17 degrees below zero Thursday night. Broke the all time record for February (and almost the all time record cold for any date in NW Ohio). Buuuuurr.

Funny that you mention it - but I, too, did the tongue on the frozen poll thing when I was a kid with about the same results. Was thinking about it the other day. Funny how the weather can trigger memories.

Glad to see you're out and about and congratulations on your new internet venture - HEPER-DATE.com

I know you're dying for the spring to arrive, so you can get your scooter fired-up.

Like I told you last summer: May the white line be your guide, may the sun be on your brow and the wind at your back!

Best wishes on your new life, Willie!

Thx Mike. I'm getting ready to get my HARLEY SKIS out and hook them baby's up and if I fall I will head for a snowbank and be KING OF THE MOUNTAIN.  GOOD. YEAR FOR THAT.    that brings back memories too when as kids we played those games in the snow.   Kids today are to busy cleaning THIER pistols and shooting each other.  I'd go out and get on the big mountain down the road and challenge people as they go by but it's not yellow snow I would have to worry about but it would be the RED snow I  produce as I roll my gun shot butt down the hill.   Any way folks if your a little depressed due to this hep stuff just blame it on the snow and cold and by the time this winter is over you will be done with treatment  and I did it in the summer and the sun shined everyday and I was on oylisio so sun was VERY and is bad on that.   Later folks.  ""Just Willie g"" and remember anything I post that seems stupid to you IT IS
