Many docs do the test at 4 weeks post-treatment and then 12 weeks after treatment  completion. However, here is what the experts say:
Quote
Quantitative HCV viral load testing is recommended after 4 weeks of therapy and at 12 weeks following completion of therapy. Antiviral drug therapy should NOT be interrupted or discontinued if HCV RNA levels are not performed or available during treatment.
Quantitative HCV viral load testing can be considered at the end of treatment and 24 weeks or longer following the completion of therapy.

In other words, the only viral load tests that are truly recommended are at week 4 of treatment and week 12 post-treatment. The AASLD also says, "
Quote
Some may choose to forego end-of-treatment viral load testing, given the high rates of viral response with the newer regimens, and to focus on the week 12 post-treatment viral load. Virologic relapse is rare at 12 or more weeks after completing treatment. Nevertheless, repeat quantitative HCV RNA testing can be considered at 24 or more weeks after discontinuing treatment for selected patients.

I have found that doctors are just as anxious as we are to know what is going on, so viral loads are ordered more frequently - few of us refuse this extra info. That 24 post-treatment lab is largely for reassurance, but I think reassurance is part of being cured.

thanks, my doc wants to just wait till 24 wks after treatment. Is there insurance issues with earlier check at 12 wks? wouldn't I want to know asap if it came back.

I don't know about insurance issues. I am not sure what difference it would make to know earlier, other than you would know. You can't do anything if it comes back early, and we should all (hep C or no hep C) act as if our blood is infectious.

Yesterday, my mother had fever during whole day. Her body degree was 37.9-38 C. Today she is better.
Now I am little bit confused. We finished her 12 week treatment 10 days ago. EOT is negative.
I hope it has nothing to do with hepatitis c and just chill.  Does anyone had the same after finishing Harvoni treatment?
