I just started Harvoni yesterday.  I have noticed I really have the chills.  Has anyone else had this as a side effect?

misskriss,

Welcome!  Congrats on starting down the road to cure. I did not take the Harvoni treatment, but I would guess mild fever is a standard side effect easily controlled with ibuprofen or acetaminophen, depending on which your MD suggests.  One consistent piece of advice I see across all treatments is hydration, so drink lots of water.  Good luck for a rapid viral load drop to undetectable, and to a cure.  Let us know your status along the treatment, and blood test results, if you don't mind. Best wishes, -jack

Hello Misskriss,

I am on Harvoni and never encountered the chills. I felt a little tired after the first week of taking it but that has pretty much gone away. You are the first one I have seen on here that mentioned that as a side affect. Hopefully it does not last long and you can get past it. Drinking lots of water has helped others cope with side affects. I hope you feel better soon, Amy

Been on it 2 days and no sides yet. I had chills, fever, body aches weekend before christmas. Not on treatment but I had the flu. We are in the middle of the flu season.

Its so tempting to blame any new symptoms or conditions on Harvoni... I just finished a 3 day bout with 100 degree fever, chills, and stomach cramps, but, not having read about these being a side effect, I just imagined I caught a stomach bug in that infirmary they call the gym, or from friends, who have also had a stomach bug.  There's a lot of contagious stuff going around now, and Id suspect that before Harvoni as the likely cause.

Hi misskriss !!  Excited to hear you are on your way to being cured via Harvoni. During my first week on Harvoni I experienced chills, then hot flashes. My head, ears and face felt like I was lying in the hot sun while my feet and hands felt like they were in an ice bucket. Also felt some weird sensations that I believe was the Harvoni actually battling the virus. Mild headaches and my BP elevated to the point where I needed yo increase my BP meds. Now day 26 and have not experienced any sides in a couple weeks. Starting to feel better each day as the brain fog seems to be lifting, joint pain is diminished and headaches are minimal. Still on the BP meds and have tinnitus.

Funny I had chills a year and a half ago due to my advanced liver disease caused by HCV infection, it took a long time but that subsided upon treatment wwith pegatron / sovaldi in 2014. Well this the beginning of my fourth week of harvoni and the chills came back just the other day. they seem to come and go as last night they were bad enough for me to sit around with a blanket on, yet this morning I have no chills to speak of.

I have had no fever - just chills - maybe it doesn't help that it is winter and -9 F outside here in montreal!

I forgot to mention once a week I lie down but can't sleep until 3 or 4 or even 5 in the morning. Needless to say on those days I'm kid of un-productive - disfunctional!

Other than that I have had one small headache which lasted 5 minutes and went away with no other sides to speak of.

Hope you feel better soon.

I am in my 6th week now.  I still get freezing cold in the evening, although it is geting better than before.  I received the results of my first blood test, which came back virus free.  My husband and family are absolutely jazzed!  I feel better, have very few headaches.  Still have fatigue in the late afternoon on.  I am halfway through the course of treatment and very excited.  Best of luck to all of you.

Congratulations MissKriss : ) Its a fabulous feeling hearing those words isn't it!

On the chills, I had them one day during my first week.. after that nothing. I think we are all affected differently but for me.. after the first few days and a issue sleeping.. I feel perfectly normal and that's my hope for everyone!

I'm on my 11th day, and I got the chills this afternoon. I couldn't shake them off until after I ate dinner.  This is the third day it has happened, and it felt worse each day. I've been exercising, drinking lots of water, and eating well.  Last treatment on peg and rib had me anemic. Hope that doesn't happen this time around.

I definitely have the chills.  Socks, slippers and feet still cold. I am wearing a sweatshirt and upper body is cold.  My wife has not been cold.  I am on day 21 and this has been about a week now.

I've had lots of chilling and still have it almost 2 weeks after EOT.
I just dress up more and I don't even care if people think I'm dressed up too much. Have needed to wear long johns more lately. Once I get exercising and doing things, that seems to help. I don't think it will last forever, and I'm sure there are other SFX worse than this.

I am "in training" (haha!) for my Harvoni treatment, which I hope to start in May. And by that, I mean I have been upping my water intake to see if I can reach 1 gallon a day. I can certainly do 1/2 a gallon a day. The one thing I have noticed from this (and remember - I am not yet on Harvoni or any drugs) is that I am chilled all the time… I assume from that volume of room temperature liquid (approx 65 degrees) going into my body. Since everyone on these forums is religiously upping their water intake to offset side effects during tx… maybe that could be the cause of some chills?

I have been giving some thought to warming my water…

You guys who are cold all the time... Checked your TSH level lately?  This is a primary symptom of hypothyroid, which Im told, is a very common co-condition with HCV...

I had the chills prior to treatment before I knew of my cirrhosis. I think chills relate to liver disease directly not as a side effect of harvoni. Also racing heartbeat and some trebling in my hands. Just my opinion.
Harvoni has only given me a headache and fatigue. No tummy, cough or any other real SFX that I can directly relate to Harvoni.
