harvoni causing sore gums
« on: June 20, 2015, 03:08:22 pm »
I am in my 8th week of a 12 week harvoni and riboviron treatment.   Virus was not detected after 4 weeks which is new for me. I have been treated previously with Sivaldi for 12 weeks and vectreles (spelling ??) for 48 weeks. Virus was never undetected this early in previous treatments.

I am experiencing really sore gums after 6 weeks of treatment. I'm thinking it's unrelated but wanted to check with others taking harvoni.

Thanks and good luck to all.

Mouth and gum soreness, and even open sores in mouth and gums, are a documented Ribavirin side effect. I had a bit of that start up last week. (I am now in Week 7 of Harvoni+Ribavirin.) I increased my dietary vitamin C with fruit and with drinking lots of water with fresh lemon squeezed into it (no sugar). Also doubled down on oral hygiene, tooth-brushing, flossing, etc. I also started taking a selenium/C/E anti-oxidant combo that I had on my shelf (although generally I am not a pill-taker). Problem disappeared pretty quickly - in 5 days or so. I think rinsing with warm salt water would also help. I was going to do that, but these other methods sorted it out before I got around to starting the salt water rinse.

best of luck to you!
