I thought what a great way to start my battle with the Hep C virus, than today.  :)

Thank you to all the men and women who are serving, or have served in the United States’ Armed Forces!!!

Brad,
Yes, I'm glad as well, thank you! "Keeping the ball in play" was definitely hard to handle at times, though.

I'm so sorry for your relapse  :(
Praying for you to get approval for 12wks Harvoni/Ribavirin.

Blessings,
MG

Day 1 - felt 'weird', kind of out of sorts, that is the only way I can think of describing it. No real headache, a tad dizzy/light-headed, couldn't concentrate. Drank lots of water, some with fresh squeezed lemon juice.

Day 2 - felt more normal, tired/fatigued later in the day. Took an hour nap in the afternoon... maybe a bad idea, because I couldn't fall asleep last night, until after midnight (& my husband's snoring got on my nerves)

Day 3 - Just took my Harvoni @ 11am.  :)

Day 4 - Nothing much to report, except I woke up @ 4am & couldn't get back to sleep, UGH!

Day 5 - Same as day 4

Day 6 - Same, again... waking up around 4am-ish, can't fall back sleep. I guess the 'lack' of sleep made today a teary-eyed day for me. Oh, well, not too concerned about it. Experiencing some joint achiness; it could be the fatigue & long days. Keeping hydrated, has kept the headaches away.

(I have been laying down for a rest 1-2 times a day, 20-30 minutes. I set my phone alarm, just in case I fall asleep.)  ;)

When I started taking Harvoni, I had thought I would post my daily experience(s) with Harvoni. It turns out, as you can see, I obviously haven't. (Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, etc...)

The main reason - each day is about the same. No real major complaints.  :)

Some highlights -
* If I feel a headache coming on, I drink an extra bottle of water = No headache (I do drink water throughout the day)
* Some 'nights' I can't seem go back to sleep, after I wake up too early (4-5am-ish)
* Usually by the evening, my concentration isn't all that great
* Some joint/muscle aches, drinking fresh-squeezed lemon water, seems to help
* My recall of details, kind of stinks, at times
* Right now, my left shoulder/neck is very uncomfortable (hurts/aches). It may be from sleeping funny, doing yard-work or both
* Sometimes people get on my nerves, not sure why, may be fatigue?
* Woke up several morning & cried for a bit, not sure what that is about
* Not taking/needing several daily naps, like I had before starting Harvoni (but I try to take a 'time-out', for about 20-30 minutes, once a day)
* I seem to have a hard focusing my eyes when reading (with & without glasses)
* Don't need my afternoon coffee

This best way to describe my symptoms - It is like how I felt before Harvoni, but with a "twist".

I would say, all in all, I am doing better than I anticipated while on Harvoni.

Praying & hoping, we all will achieve SVR & enjoy life symptom-free!

Blessings,
MG

Hi MG
I like that!  "with a twist" is exactly how I feel LOL
I was going to post a daily journal too but find that I have nothing new to add.

I did also have the neck shoulder pain and thought it was how I slept
hmmmmm...
People get on my nerves too especially in the first week or two of Harvoni
I seem to be a bit "better" now :)

Hoping for SVR for you and all of us

Thanks, Deb!
Which shoulder/neck side was bothering you? Mine is on the left - I usually fall asleep on that side. I wonder if others had this same thing happen.

I have been trying to keep my mouth shut, when people "get on my nerves"... it is better for all concerned  ;)

For the first time, in a long time - I was able to work in the yard for 4 hours & not be completely wiped-out. (Still have much more to do.) Working in the yard, is my therapy.  ;) No one bothers me, so it is a win-win situation!

Mine was on my left too :) and that is also what side I fall asleep on.  I wanted to say it might be a side effect but didn't want to blame everything on Harvoni.
Who knows right?

Glad you can work in the yard. I still feel like I get tired way too easily
BUT I felt like this before Harvoni too and... I am so out of shape it is ridiculous.

I have been trying to keep my mouth shut too haha

Keep well

A bit of an update:
Currently, I'm starting on Day 21 / Week 3 of Harvoni (8-week treatment).

Some highlights -

* No headaches, at all. (I am drinking lots of water)
* If I don't drink several glasses of fresh-squeezed lemon water, after a few days, the joint/muscle aches will return
* Waking up after only 5 hrs of sleep & unable to fall back to sleep (ugh!)
* Left side shoulder & neck discomfort/aches upon waking up, it does dissipate after the morning goes on
* Concentration has improved a bit, my recall seems better, not 100% though; by the evenings, it isn't as 'sharp'
* Random moments of itchiness, not severe (At first, I thought it was the mosquitoes/no see-ums were biting me)
* Pale stools sometimes (tmi?)
* Before Harvoni, I would get very anxious when I had a lot going on. Now, I feel 'calmer' - Harvoni working or just maturity... either is fine with me
* I try to take at least one 20-30 mins of a 'time-out' each day to lay down & relax
* Fatigue will hit me hard, if I've had a full day... I just want to fall over
* It use to take me several days to recover from my 'full days'. Now it seems not to be such an issue
* Interestingly, I have gained a few pounds, even though I am not eating more than usual. Hoping it doesn't continue - can't afford to buy new clothes, plus I hate shopping  :o

I can't think of anything else to add... Except - I wish my personal house cleaner, massage therapist, chef & comedian would show up! (Never hired any of them, just want them to come & surprise me)   ::)

Praying we all will achieve SVR & enjoy a symptom-free life!

Hope everyone one has a wonderful weekend!

Blessings,
MG

PS - Called in my refill early yesterday & it suppose to arrive today (wow). I really didn't need it yet, but wanted to get it out of the way.  8)

I started my Harvoni treatment on 2/10/2015.  "Viral Load" was in the several millions when I started.  Last 3 blood tests have come back as "virus not detected" !!!  How awesome is that !!!!!!!!!!!

Only side effects that I had was insomnia in the first 2 weeks (BAD TOO)  I was sleeping like 1-2 hours a night, in 15-20 minute bursts.  Tried many things..but found that Melatonin and Unisom (the one with doxylamine, NOT diphenhydramine) finally worked for me.  I'm feeling awesome !!  Thank the good Lord for technology and my Hospital, Froedtert in Milwaukee WI :)

I hope the treatments work for everyone..!!  We've been waiting decades for this !!

Hey folks,
I started Harvoni on 5/8.    I've had Hep C since the 70's, tried Interferon/Riba, quit after 2 weeks with bad SX.
I am Genotype 4, and my highest viral load was 382,000. Got my 28 day blood work results today,  and I am <15 Undetected!!!
I have 52 more days of treatment, which has been pretty darn easy. Some fatigue, but water helps.
Prayers for us all!

Goodmorning - I just completed 8 weeks of Harvoni on Friday, June 5, 2015. Looking forward to my first blood test on June 11, 2015 to see if Hep C is detected. I have had Geno Type 1b for 41 years and was treatment naive before the Harvoni. There have been side effects, but nothing I haven't experienced prior to treatment due to Hep C itself. I am hoping for good results. Positive thoughts!!

YAY MG Glad you are doing OK
I had the neck shoulder thing for a while but now it is gone
Stools also very very pale and loose (I know TMI but whatever right?)
Other than that I feel pretty good.  I do feel like the brain fog may be worse for me because I keep finding mistakes that I made at work :(
PS starting my 3rd bottle today!! Can you imagine time went by that fast?

Bubba that is great news!! YIPEE!!

Take care everybody!!

Goodluck to you!! I started Harvoni on April 11, 2015 and I also had 56 pills. I finished mine on June 5, 2015. Blood work done today for the first time. Hoping to hear that Hep C isn't detected the first of next week.

Hey, to all - Wow, lots of posts! So happy to hear all the good news!!!  :)

I haven't been able to get on the forum to reply & really don't know where to start (sorry). I have been too consumed with the stuff of life. Ugh!

Just started my 2nd (& last) bottle of Harvoni on 6/13 & had my 4-week bloodwork done on 6/11. Looking forward to seeing the results. I will post them, as soon as I get them.

Debula - when did the neck thing end for you? I hope, as time goes on, your brain fog goes away. That has got to be so very frustrating!  :-\ My brain fog isn't as obvious, if I was working outside the home, it would be a problem & more apparent.

BubbaT - Lemon juice patent, good one!  :) (Count me in) When I win the lottery, we can move forward on the business plan.  ;)

Blessings,
MG

I think it lasted about 2 weeks and then it was gone.  I feel though, that any headache I do get stems from the back of my neck.  If that makes any sense.  Hard to explain but I will lay on my bed and watch TV or read or whatever and then my neck hurts which then turns into a headache.  It is nothing I can't manage or anything but just weird little stuff that may be totally unrelated to TX.  Just hyper aware of EVERYTHING going on with my body ;D

Stay well and keep us posted

Woo-Hoo! I got my 4 week bloodwork results today!

HCV Not Detected!  :)
AST - 15
ALT - 17

Awesome, awesome... better than I anticipated!  :D
It feels very surreal to me, if that makes any sense?

Here is the back story to getting the results:
I was going to be at an eye doctor appointment, near my GI's office (40 mins from home). I called the GI office to ask if my results were back from my bloodwork, done last week. I wanted to pick up a copy while I was in the area. I was told he wasn't in today and had not signed off on it, so.. No, I couldn't have them.

Wow, are you kidding me?  ::)

The person I spoke with, was so very kind! She suggested my PCP could call her and request a copy to be faxed to his office. I knew my my PCP would not hesitate in doing this for me, which he did. Here's a funny part to this story, I picked-up the copy and realized - I couldn't read it, because my eyes were dilated!  8)
Once I got back to my car, put my glasses on & read the results, I was so happy, I cried happy tears.

Praying for all of us to do well!

Blessings,
MG

To add to this wonderful day - We had a young black bear on our deck this evening, which was also awesome! He was just casually 'passing through'.

Congratulations Harvey! And welcome to the journey. :)

I am into week 7 of 12 of Harvoni+Ribavirin. So far no real problems. My hemoglobin is low due to the Ribavirin, but nothing unmanageable. No pain or discomfort or suffering of any sort. A pretty easy ride, all in all. Yours will be even easier without the Ribavirin.

Wishing us all a good outcome,
kim

Hi,
4th day on Harvoni.  So far I feel strangely energized after taking the pill and am able to get a good deal of work done each day.  I am familiar with the headaches and body pains from before treatment.  They are not now qualitatively different but seem to come and go more quickly.  By 8 pm I am wiped-out
I am curious, are there dietary secrets that I am unaware of?  I know it's a good idea to minimize salt, sugar and fried fats and that cruciferous vegetables are good but what else can I do to minimize side effects and more importantly - help this drug do what it is designed to do?
Thank you for any advice you may have! I haven't yet been able to successfully search the topics in this forum but rather browse and meander all over the place.  There is so much here!  I hope all the best for everyone!  :)

Hi Harvey and welcome!!

I have read that red meat is not good for the liver
And drink lots and lots and lots of water (double your body weight in ounces)
I find that if a headache starts to come on, if I drink water it usually goes away

Good luck with your Harvoni journey!
Be well

Thank you Kim!! I am very excited (and nervous) for this journey. It has been a very long time coming for me as I was diagnosed late 80's. I also was at my husbands side when it took him 6 years ago and I kept praying for a miracle to happen. Hopefully this is it. I was blessed to get accepted into the PATH program after being denied by my insurance so am ready to go. Meds delivered later today and I start tomorrow. I will be in touch with everyone for help and support! Love, peace, happiness and yes, healing to all!
