Liver Regeneration
« on: June 30, 2015, 08:31:17 pm »
I found out I was still an F3 today after having a Fibrosure test. I was so pleased knowing my liver was still at a stage where it could regenerate. I was wondering what your docs have told you about liver regeneration. I can't seem to find an article with the specifics I am looking for either.  For instance, my doc told me after being cured from Hep C one could expect to go back a stage which would make me an F2 after some regeneration and healing. What information do you all have? Oh yea after 11 doses of Harvoni my Viral load went down from just under a million to 33.
diagnosed-early 2000's
F3 grade 2-as of Dec. 2012 genotype 1a
2 attempts at Inteferon based tx stopped after 7 weeksX2
Started Harvoni for 12 weeks monotherapy-June 13, 2015 Added Ribavirin June 24th
Beginning AST 117 ALT 261 VL 932876

Hello

I'm in the same situation (F3) and ended the Harvoni 12wk treatment (HCV, 1b) just 3 weeks ago and waiting now for the SVR4/8/12 Results, undetected since week 8.

My medic (Prof University of Zurich) has a lot of experience in liver diseases and he said, that there are no general regeneration statements available. It depends the health condition (and also the genesis) such a) eating fat things b) drinking alcohol c) using drugs and other liver damaging processes.

My interpretation of his messages was, that liver regeneration can happen, if you stay healthy and do not stress your liver. The regeneration process can take a long time (years) and there is a chance to be fully recovered. His experience is, that 33% recovers fully, 33% stays as is and 33% are entering F4 stage.

The post treatment with yearly Fibroscans and blood tests during the next 5 years will show the health progress. So it depends of any of us, how we are managing the situation with the given chance with the new wonder drugs. Take care to you and good luck.

I'm also interested about any other opinions or studies.

With all the best regards
Rob

Hi all
I would also like to know more about this.

I am F4 :( and my doctor told me that my liver would not be able to regenerate
He put it very bluntly and said " if you have a piece of leather that is shredded to pieces how can you expect it to be put back together?"
I know that after I am cured that at least HepC won't be able to do further damage but I don't think my liver will be able to go back a stage.  I hope it does though

I was told to eat 3 egg whites a week - albumin in eggs helps with cell regeneration. Does it work? don't know - but can't hurt!
