At 8 weeks they will also do a blood test.  Will the patient be taken off treatment if vl is not responding?  Or will the continue to 12 weeks?

No.. Response Guided Treatment was a factor in Interferon regimens but not with the new DAAs.   Because of this, there has been little value found in testing during treatment with drugs like Harvoni.  The most meaningful tests, and one which many doctors wait for is the 12 wk post treatment test.. If you are Undetected at 12 wks post treatment, you are considered SVR and clear of the virus.  Lastly, even if detected at end of treatment, most will go on to SVR at 12 wks post treatment!

Yep, me. These drugs are very new over here in Aust, so I think the specialists are studying responses to them. The protocol my hospital uses is to do a VL at 2 weeks, expecting to see a drop. If not UND at Week 2, they do another at Week 4. If still not UND at Week 4 they do one at Week 8. They've never had to go further than that from what I know.

My VL at Week 4 was 40. Sometime between Weeks 4 and 8 it became undetected. I know they would have kept me going until 12 weeks for sure with some VL, then they would ha ve discussed continuing with me. My guess is had I still not hit UND at Week 12 they would have kept going.

I'm on 24 weeks of therapy and had a viral test at week 4 and won't get another one regardless of results until week 24, then again at week 12 and 24 post treatment. I have't got the results of the test yet just waiting to hear from my nurse.

Thats gonna be a long wait.  But thats the way they are doing it  more and more, cause the vl test is so expensive and apparently its not as important to monitor as in the past.
