Hello all, I will be picking up my first month of Harvoni/Ribivarin tmrw. I am T2 diabetic, have NASH with stage 4 fibrosis/stage 2 cirrhosis. My Dr wanted me on 24 wks of tx, but was denied funding. I was lucky that between 3 insurance plans that I could get coverage for 12 wks Harvoni. I know its side effects are minimal, but I worry about the Ribivarin. I know everyone is different, but does anyone have any experience w the Ribivarin side effects? I worry that w my other issues that 12 wks won't be enough, and then to try and get more coverage in my province will be even worse. I need this done so that I can try to get my life going. I am mid-30 not married, no kids. I'm worried I will be living my life in limbo forever. I'm hoping this group will give me a place to vent w and to ppl that understand. TIA

Welcome, Morgana. Yes, this group will definitely give you a place to vent, and people who understand will empathize and cheer you on. Quite a few members on this forum are taking Harvoni/Ribavirin. (I am on Harvoni only -- the few side effects have been trivial.) And there are quite a few members from Canada. On weekdays many members don't have a chance to read and respond to forum posts until the evening.
While you wait, these threads seem relevant to what you are asking:

Hi Morgana. Welcome to the forums and to the harvoni+ribavirin journey!

I just finished 12 weeks of Harvoni+Ribavirin. I am about 3 weeks post-treatment. Many of us on the same harvoni+ribavirin journey have been talking about our progress and side effects here on the thread 'Day 2 Harvoni+Ribavirin'

I think Gnatcatcher also gave you that link.

Harvoni had no negative side effects for me that I was aware of. With Ribavirin, the main issue is hemolytic anemia. I was pretty anemic by the end, meaning no energy, short of breath if climbing a flight stairs or a small hill. It can also cause emotional issues ("riba rage"). And that affected me toward the end as well. But I figured I can handle a few weeks of difficulty to be cured of Hep C for the rest of my life.

I don't know if your situation with cirrhosis, diabetes, NASH etc. presents some additional problems with this drug combo. What is your Genotype?

Good luck! I live in Canada too :)

Hey Kim, I am 1a. I know that there are complications with all my other issues hence my Dr wanted to give me 24. In terms of side effects, I think it may, I'm not 100% sure. I already deal with fatigue, depression/anxiety, and anemia. I'll have to see how it goes. Dose one down the hatch today, 83 to go.
