Harvoni vs viekira pak
« on: August 19, 2015, 09:38:54 pm »
It seems like most people if they had a choice would much rather get harvoni instead of viekira pak.  I'm just wondering what if anything is so undesirable with viekira pak. I started viekira pak 2 days ago and would love to hear from some of you experienced bloggers wisdom you have learned along the journey.  Thank you for a place that I can go for support

Besides Viekira Pak being less convenient that Harvoni's one pill a day, those with Genotype 1a (with or without cirrhosis) and Genotype 1b with cirrhosis must take Ribavirin along with Viekira Pak, which can add side effects from the Ribavirin. Fewer Harvoni users need to take Ribavirin in addition to Harvoni.

edman300, are you are taking Viekira Pak without Ribavirin? In that case, the only differences that I'm aware of are taking more pills and needing to take them with food (Harvoni can be taken with or without food). The Viekira Pak cure rates look excellent. Best wishes to you.

Yes i am genotype 1b without cirrhosis so I don't have to take ribovarin.  Thank God.  I did 2 different regiments of interferon with ribovarin.  It almost did me in. Thanks for the input and encouragement.  I appreciate it and best wishes to you as well

Since you are treatment-experienced without cirrhosis, it's 12 weeks with either drug, so there's no difference there either. Bon Voyage!

What gnatcatcher said. Without riba increased pill burden, different drugs (more or less) so therefore increased drug interactions to watch but really apart from that, success rates are pretty similar.
