I am cured at 12 wks post harvoni and undetectable?
« on: August 10, 2015, 05:31:51 pm »
I took Harvoni for 24 wks (6 months) I was undetectable at 12 weeks already. Today my doc called me and told me congratulations, since you are at 12 weeks post treatment you are cured! I asked if I'm not supposed to be tested again at 6 months post treatment and he said Only if your liver functions have changed...

Soooooo I am considered cured for real ? What are my chances to relapse ( I had cirrhosis).... I'm trying to be cautious.

Hepatitis C SVR12 vs SVR24: Trusting That We Are Truly Cured

My situation is similar to yours I am not totally ready to exhale yet but that is what many experts are saying is we are cured.

However with cirrhosis the plan for me going forwards is blood testing and abdominal ultra sound every 6 months to monitor for liver cancer and annual upper endoscopy to check to make sure my esophageal varicies have not returned. I will probably be seeing my doctors nurse for my annual appointments at the liver center.

Hep c is a virus if it is gone, it is gone. If it does not come back there isn't any virus to come back so the only way is to get infected again. There may be some rare late relapse in the future that remains to be seen but that would be the exception.

Best of luck to you and congrats
In health

I started a 24 week post harvoni thread for this reason. I suspect the majority will be happy with having normal liver panel results confirming their cured status. But for those of us lucky enough to secure a VL test at 6 months post Harvoni it might just help lighten the doubts that will inevitably happen. Especially for those of us that are gt 1a and have experience tx failure(s) in the past! I believe Nicole managed to get a 24 week vl test confirmation so we can count her experience as at least one confirmation that Harvoni is indeed a complete cure for gt 1a! 8) 8)

Glad to hear that and I guess I should have read more. It is just up here in Canuck land, I am one the first of the first 24 weekers to reach 12 week svr on Harvoni and many 12 weekers that started tx just after I did have not reached 24 week svr quite yet but my nurse and GI will fill me in more on Sept 1 I am sure. I was approved only a few short days after Ottawa cleared the drug!

I believe I was the first on Vancouver Island to be treated with Harvoni other than a few who were in the clinical trials. At least this is what my clinic nurse tells me and the clinic is one of the best in the Province and is affiliated with the latest clinical research.

So a 24 week svr thread is not a bad idea IMO. I take it if no one responds that everyone has reached 24 week svr that also reached 12 weeks. So if it is a dead end thread I will not mind. I was just hoping to take some of the pressure off the 12 week check in thread. Not to split it up the idea!

My Dr isn't doing a 6 months test. I don't go back until 6 months after the SVR12 which will be in Feb.

I will only be seeing my doctors nurse in April in Seattle. I go to the office once a year.

I get my labs done in the town I live in 25 miles away every 6 months and get my results on a web site/app MyChart. Also a 6 month abdominal ultrasound and an annual upper endoscopy.

I requested the 6 months post since I am having a blood draw then anyway.
