supplements and pain meds and Harvoni
« on: September 10, 2015, 12:57:14 pm »
Because of the relatively new History of this drug- Harvoni - I felt it important for me to give up all supplements and medications I could for the period of time I am on treatment. The Benadryl was hard to give up and the Ibuprofen because I had 1 long headache lasting about 1 week when I first started Harvoni. I did take 1 Ibuprofen during this time. The Benadryl I took almost every night after working 2nd shift for sleep. Its going OK but seriously I would dry complimentary medicine such as acupuncture; meditation; walking;. Since the medication is so new - we don't really know ALL the interactions and what could potentiate or negate the action of the Harvoni. I Just really want rid of this HEP C and I don't want to screw up my chances. No Judgment though - to each there own path

I think that is prudent (assuming you also abstain from most supplements and herbs). I will say that although the drugs haven't been out that long, we do know quite a bit about drug interactions since we know the chemistry of how these drugs work. In other words, we don't need to wait for everyone to try all the combos to see if there is an interaction.

Like you, I avoided everything, and leaned towards meditation and healthy living. However, because I was on ribavirin, I did get so I needed help, and although I balked at my doc's suggestions, I did give in - it was the best thing I did.

What you are taking should not interact - here is a link that is handy to have:  http://www.hep-druginteractions.org/

Wishing you a successful treatment.

thanks for the reply Lucinda. I have been staying away from my supplements too. Osteobiflex and all vitamins. I eat a healthy fruit/vege filled diet so I am sure for the time being all is well. I have been reading many of your columns last months and I must say
You HAVE given me hope and I thank you BUNCHES for that.
