Total cost of treatment through My Support Path
« on: January 13, 2016, 11:18:54 am »
Hello everyone I am curious if anybody on here has gone through Gilead's My Support Path and how it worked and the total cost after treatment so I can figure out if it's a good way to go about it. Thank you very much.

Hi, Dogs Rule -- welcome to the forums. Gilead My Support Path did contribute a coupon that picked up much of my co-pays so that I ended up paying only $5 per 28-pill bottle, for a total of $15 for the entire 12-week treatment. But I started in early July; policies change periodically, so I can't assess how worthwhile it would be now.

Are you aware that many insurers who formerly wouldn't cover anyone without very advanced disease have changed their tune and are much more willing to approve treatment? Our RN moderator, Lucinda Porter, has a couple of threads about this:

Hope this helps.

So, I have an unfair advantage because I do this stuff all day...if you are approved through insurance, the coupon at mysupportpath.com will still cover all but $5 per 28-day bottle. Once you have the approval from your insurance company, go to mysupportpath.com, fill out the questionnaire(it's just a couple easy questions), then download the coupon. When I download these for clients, I generally print a few copies. Also, if I were you, I'd write my name and date of birth on the coupon. Then, make sure and get that coupon to the pharmacy where you're getting the medicine (you can always just bring it with you when you go to pick it up, or if you're getting it through a mail-order pharmacy, ask to speak to the billing department and tell them you want to read them the numbers off the coupon!) If you or the pharmacy ever loses that coupon, you can always go back to the web site and download a replacement. Also, if you DO get a bill for more than $5 from a mail-order pharmacy, call the billing department and remind them that you have a coupon, and they'll cancel that bill!

Also, just FYI (because in my experience Support Path is all over the place in terms of what they tell people), they can cover the whole course of treatment ONLY if there's no way for you to obtain insurance (for example, if you're an undocumented immigrant, or if you live in a state that didn't take the Medicaid expansion under Obamacare). Feel free to PM me if you're wondering about your insurance coverage policies or anything else about the process of getting someone to pay for these medicines, I know it can be a handful and everybody here would like you to focus on being cured, not all this nonsense!
