Viral load
« on: February 23, 2016, 06:00:24 pm »
I just got the call that after 4 weeks of treatment my viral count is at 15 capsules. Before I started I was at 2.5 million. This sounds like it is almost gone from my system.  Is that the correct way to look at this info?  I meet with the doctor tomorrow, but I am curious.
Thanks for any feedback.

Welcome, bmp. Yes, it means the HCV is almost gone from your system. These medicines work quickly. It is still very important to continue treatment for the total number of weeks.

Hi people,

I am also wondering if someone can help me read my results?
These are my 4 week results which I have just accessed via a new GP (I'm now in about week 9 - soooo, kind of redundant but I'm still interested).

The Gp just said that there is nothing there to read.

But - after a bit of maths - not my strong suit I think these figures say that my viral load had barely reduced and was 213,333.3 (in total - not million). Can someone interpret them for me please?

Hepatitus C Virus Quantification (Viral load)
Specimen - Serum
Result:
HCV RNA PCR (Quantitative) = <15 IU/ml
Log units = < 1.28

Comment: HCV RNA Detected (<15 IU/ml).

Hi, Hazel. The reason it says <15 rather than an exact number is because below 15 the test can't count how many, it can just tell that there are more than zero but fewer than 15. As jakas wrote, the treatment is working very well. Excellent progress!

less than 15 is much better than 200,000 or so. It's working beautifully.
