Day 1 Harvoni
« on: February 20, 2016, 10:57:39 am »
Scared, positive , exicted to be free of Hep C. Diagnosed with Hep C geno type 1b in 2004.
Due to having geno type 1b I waited for a better chance of ridding myself of this ugly Hep C. I choose not to do interfon.
Was monitored by Dr. and took herbs until Harvoni arrived. Last year my insurance denied Harvoni.
Due to cost of insurance tripling had to change insurance.
What a blessing to me... My new insurance approved Harvoni and I took my first freedom pill today.... Positive that I will beat this once and for all !

Here's my advice, for what it's worth:
Try not to fixate on side effects, they come and go and the majority of people don't get anything significant with Harvoni.
Now isn't the time to try and change your other Meds. Tell the treating dr what you are taking to ensure no clashes, but if you need a medication normally, keep taking it unless your dr tells you not to. Stability is key here.
Take each day as it comes. Don't wait for the other shoe to drop - it might not! You might get through this with minimal issues.
Don't borrow trouble - don't anticipate problems.
Keep your medical team in the loop.
Drink water. Lots of water.

I learnt all this the hard way. I offer it to you at no cost, so you don't get to make all my mistakes. M

I avoided any extra medication completely because I have advanced cirrhosis. At first the headache was pronounced but not severe enough to keep me up at night.

What I wound up doing instead of taking meds was exercises to increase the blood flow to my head. Yoga is great for this and the Chinese are really on to something with Ti Chi. It did me wonders during treatment.

As much as staying well hydrated helped, I know that also doing slow careful exercises did more to ease the minor effects of harvoni than any over the counter medication would.

All the best.

Mugwump, excellent advice, thank you. I felt just fine all day today, couldn't tell I'd taken anything at all, but I do know this may change as more of these miracle pills do their thing.  Exercise in all forms has its own healing powers, doesn't it?!

I'm just so glad to be able to finally post that I'm on treatment!!!  FT

Great to see you have started FT!
I walked every day without fail, even if I didn't want to. I did three km every morning. I think that really helped. Got me up, out the door, into the fresh air and I appreciated the world aroud me. My dog really liked it too.

Well if it's any consolation I'm not doing it at the moment. It's been well over 100f here for over a week, I have a broken arm and I'm finding it all very challenging just getting dressed on my own in the morning let alone walking. ;)

I'm in plaster from my fingers  to my armpit and therefore not a happy camper.

It happened when I was in Cuba. A few weeks ago now. A rental car full of Czech tourists hit the taxi we were in. They seemed to think an illegal u turn without signalling or looking was okay.

One week today .... Yippee! Only 11 more to go. Headache all day yesterday but played pickle ball and went for walk. Today no headache and played piCole ball and walked. Excercise sure helps...
Now time to get some more water down...
