HEP C Free at last
« on: April 14, 2016, 10:54:46 am »
Hi to all.  I was diagnosed with Chronic Hep C in 2013.  I visited various doctors and did intensive research.  Liver enzymes were all over the place and viral loads in the millions.  I had no symptoms...it simply showed up during a routine annual physical.  It appears I contracted the disease in the late 1960s as a result of drug abuse.  I had a liver biopsy done late 2013 and the results were an F2 (fibrosis 2).  I was not fully satisfied with the treatments available at the time and the success rate were not all that comforting either.  So after a long discussion with my doctor, I opted to wait.  For the record, I'm a 62-year old male with an otherwise excellent health record.  In 2014 I started reading up on newer treatments such as Solvaldi but didn't like the combination it required with other medications, so I continued to wait.  During the latter part of 2014 Harvoni showed up as an alternative with a promising success rate, one simple pill and minimal side affects.  So I decided to bite the bullet and started on Harvoni in March 2015 and in July 2015 the virus was undetected!  My latest lab results of March 2016....undetected and my liver enzymes are within range.  From a medical point of view I am considered Hep C free and therefore cured!  I share this with all of you because Harvoni worked for me.  More importantly, my research and delaying treatment waiting for the best treatment possible was because of information posted on this website.  Everyone who shared their story helped me decipher what was best for me.  You are the reason why I did what I did and I will be forever grateful to everyone single one of you for your bravery and courage in sharing your story.  God bless you all.

Congratulations Israel,
your story is similar to mine so far.
62 year old woman, otherwise  best health, long waiting for a therapy. Diagnosed in late 90s. Contracted the virus about 36 years ago.
Did you 4 months harvoni?
With F2 and genotype 1b only 8 weeks are allowed by my insurance. Heavy side effects. Each day was a battle which became worse from day to day. The virus is back. Nobody has an explanation. Neither for the unusual side effects nor for the relapse.

I am so glad having found this forum.
And I'm glad reading stories like yours!! Long time infected and cured.

All the best for you and all.
