Harvoni and dental work?
« on: April 17, 2016, 08:29:14 pm »
Hello, All,

I have to make an emergency visit to the dentist, and I'm wondering does anyone know if novocaine and antibiotics are OK to use, while on Harvoni?

Thank you for any feedback!

I've put this up in the wrong category,
please excuse me!

I would suggest you ask your doctor or pharmacist that prescribed the Harvoni. But as far as I know should not be an issue.

The one I am most worried about would be the antibiotic but lidocaine should not be an issue. I had an upper endoscopy where they sedated you with midazolam plus fentanyl while on treatment with Harvoni and also had some dental work that required lidocaine. Was not a problem but those are only for a short time use. Antibiotics are usually taken for a number of days

Hey Pansy, my pharmacy includes a Harvoni info sheet w/ each bottle and it does say to "tell dentists, surgeons and other doctors that you use this drug."  It does not say why or answer your other questions, however.  FT

Hi Lynne K, & FutureThinker,

Thanks for your replies!

I visited my dentist for an emergency root canal, (using injected numbing agents.)
I checked the list of drugs on the pdf Harvoni to not mix, no mention of that.
No antibiotics were necessary.

As a form of back-up, I like to ask others on this forum, too!
I did tell my dentist I was taking Harvoni.
Everything went smoothly...

Thanks again to my fellow H-train riders!  8)

I had root canal work yesterday, it all seemed to go well.
Today, it's Sat., and I've felt like a cold is coming on.
Rested all day.
I just took temperature, 38.6.
I took a headache-fever down tab.

Tomorrow is Sunday, my dentist and dr's are not available, although I have a dr appt on Monday.

I called hosp., nurse told me just rest and let fever down tab work.
If fever doesn't go down, has anyone any ideas?

I feel nervous.

It's times like this, I feel alone here.

Thanks.
