Insomnia 2 days post treatment
« on: July 23, 2016, 05:36:41 am »
I don't think I have ever been this exhausted in my life. Have not slept well during treatment and glad that it is over. Started vitamins today along with gator aid. I don't feel as weak like during treatment but need to get some sleep. Any suggestions?

Robert, congratulations on finishing treatment. As you've had insomnia during treatment it could just be that the drugs still aren't out of your system yet. I don't know what the half-life for what you were on (Harvoni?) is, but once those levels come down significantly you should start to get back to normal sleeping patterns. Wishing you the best of health and SVR.

I am taking 2 Aleve PM a few hours before I wanted to go bed Robert.I don't sleep well anyway(Thank you Uncle Sam)but when I need to these work wonders for me.I don't take anything the VA gives me.If I did I'd need to have my mail sent to a rehab center. The nice thing is they don't make you feel drugged the next day and aren't addicting.

I believe Lucinda stated on a post that Harvoni is in our systems for 11 days post last pill...... if I remember correctly.  I haven't slept "normally" for a long time since menopause so I can't say what causes this problem and what doesn't. I do know, at this point in my post treatment, that a good night's sleep is the ticket to a good energy level the following day, and as of late, I am sleeping a bit better --- but why, can't say!  FT

Hello everybody. Does anybody feel 100% after treatment? I have browsed through many posts and have not found one person that does not have post treatment side effects. I sure hope that I don't continue to feel like crap.

Robert98, I remember thinking this same thought in the past....... and I remember one member, name I can't remember, saying that she had to get the generic version of Harvoni due to insurance denials.  Once she started her treatment, she started feeling extremely better with great energy and this continued straight thru treatment and afterwards.  I am sure she has gotten on with her life and that is why we don't hear from her these days. So, they exist, they just don't come to this forum anymore.  I remember another member saying that she knew several others on Harvoni treatment who didn't even check out this forum, felt they didn't need to as their treatment was so uneventful and life afterwards normalized.

So it will happen, but when -- who knows! Let's just keep putting one foot in front of the other and look forward, as I believe it will happen for all of us -- eventually.  FT

Robert98, as FT says it tends to be the nature of people and Internet forums that those with issues will be the more frequent posters. One of our moderators (Mike) posted about this earlier in the year in a way that caught my attention at the time.

http://forums.hepmag.com/index.php?topic=3775.msg36598#msg36598

Regarding your insomnia post treatment, it is also important to remember that all medications have a 'half life' or period of time that they take to reduce to half the prior levels. So over consecutive half lives they will drop as follows - 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/64, 1/128, etc. As you can see it takes seven half lives for them to drop to below 1% of the level at EOT.

In the case of some of the more common Hep C DAAs the metabolite half lives are as below (in round numbers) followed by how long it takes to get to 1/128 (0.78%) of EOT levels.

Sofosbuvir - 24 hours = 7 days
Ledipasvir - 48 hours = 14 days
Daclatasvir - 12 hours = 3.5 days
Ribavirin - 12 days = 84 days

I'm not trying to say that you need to wait until <1% before you will stop feeling strong effects but rather that they don't just go away the day we finish treatment, it does take some time for the medications to flush out of our bodies and for us to readjust.

Thank you all for your responses. It certainly made me feel better. I had the impression that I was going to feel like hell for the rest of my life. My body really feels strange. My testosterone levels have increased along with my libido. Now that was a complete surprise! I can feel power in my muscles but I am drained. I retired because of HEP C and never quite adjusted to not working. If my body continues to improve I am coming out of retirement and plan on working until I drop dead. The boredom drove me nuts. I am grateful to have people like you to talk to. Being free of Hep C opens the door to endless possibilities. God bless you all...

Robert, I also think it's very easy to forget just how powerful these drugs are that we have taken esp. when the treatment course is uneventful.  But they are extremely powerful! And I guess we all just need to try to be patient....... not easy, as I know my own energy level still isn't what I'd call normal and I'm ready for it to be -- yesterday.

Just keep in mind, as I often say on this forum, "The future is bright".  FT

Good news, Robert. Makes it all feel worthwhile.

Even though I've had some post-treatment problems, as soon as my hemoglobin levels came back up I've had normal energy levels ever since.

It would seem that I am past the post treatment side effects. My body is not the same as it was before treatment. I feel much stronger and can sense every muscle in my body as I move. Falling asleep is not a problem anymore and I am getting a much needed rest. My body did not feel this strong prior to treatment and I don't have low blood sugar problems anymore. I have to switch to a stronger deodorant because of higher testosterone. I forgot what it felt like to be strong and healthy. I am hungry all of the time. Always ingested high amounts of sugar to get energy, tried to do that yesterday and got a sugar rush that was out of this world. I guess high amounts of sugar are not needed anymore. My body is still not all the way back but look forward to this new journey of self discovery. God bless you all...
