« on: September 23, 2016, 12:33:55 am »
Hello everybody,

Just arrived here in the forum as I started my 24 week treatment with Harvoni today, or 17 hours ago to be exact.
My doctor offered me a 12 week treatment with harvoni+ribavirin, but i refused the ribavirin.
Would love to stay in this forum as the treatment progress and share the experience.
See you all.
Peace

Thank you Gnatty.
I never got any paper with scores or anything from my MD.
Maybe I should require that!?

Hi all, I'm on day 8. Started walking a few weeks before starting on harvoni and it helped me know that when I feel wobbly now it's not a sideffect. I just wobble a little.  I'll add more to my signature soon. Off to do life
Started Harvoni 9/16/16

Scheduled for 12 weeks
GT 1a or 1b
ALT 120
AST 61
Fibrospect II   17
Treatment naive

Probably infected in the 70's
Both kids tested negative

Have you discussed this with your doctor? They told you your score and didn't explain your result?

This really needs to come from your doctor but here is a link to the fibroscan score card

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/de/FibroScan_Scoring_Card_for_Liver_Stiffness_Diagnosis.png

This is from Wikipedia

"From the ten results, the median number is obtained and compared with the designated values on the FibroScan Scoring Card. The scoring card results range from 1.5 kPa to 75 kPa. Between 90–95% of healthy people without liver disease will have a liver scarring measurement less than 7.0 kPa (median is 5.3 kPa)."

For reference my fibroscan score before treatment was 27 back in 2014. I was diagnosed with cirrhosis in Jan 2008 using liver biopsy

What did the online medical journal say?

But again you really need to discuss this with your doctor. Is you doctor a hepatologist? With that kind of fibrosis you really should be seen by a hepatologist preferably associated with a transplant center. Or at least a good gastroenterologist.

Journal:
Fibroscan 21,3 kPa. IQR 1,1. IQR/median 5%. (Equals an F4)
They will do a ultrasound/x-ray in the next weeks and then decide if the will do a gastroscopy.

What do you think about gastroscopy?
Purpose?

OK I guess you mean an upper endoscopy.

From:

http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/gastroscopy/Pages/Introduction.aspx

"A gastroscopy is a procedure where a thin, flexible tube called an endoscope is used to look inside the oesophagus (gullet), stomach and first part of the small intestine (duodenum). It's also sometimes referred to as an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. The endoscope has a light and a camera at one end."

When I was initially diagnosed with cirrhosis my doctor had me get vaccinated against pneumonia, Hep A and Hep B and also to get an upper endoscopy.

Having cirrhosis we can develop pressure in the portal vein (the primary vein in the liver) because the liver being scarred can restrict blood flow. This pressure can cause the veins in the esophagus (swallowing tube) to become enlarged in some cases to the point the veins can burst. These veins are called esophageal varicies my doctor said kind of like varicose veins in you esophagus.

http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/esophageal-varices/home/ovc-20206457

So they are checking you to see if you have this happening and if so if mild they will do a repeat in a couple of years or they could opt to either treat with a beta blocker of possibly band the varicies to cut off blood flow and the tissue will die preventing a dangerous bleeding episode.

On my first endoscopy I had grade 1 varicies so we repeated 2 years later when they had grown more pronounced at grade 2. I was checked again a 1 year later and by then had grade 3 varicies. I could not take a BETA blocker so I underwent 4 upper endoscopies 1 month apart to eradicate them (they can only do so many at one time). I am now checked every year since 2012 and so far I have not had a reoccurance.

Best of luck
