second attempt atbtreatment
« on: December 06, 2016, 09:43:08 pm »
Hi all. Im new here. Im 49 and this is my second attempt at treatment. Just got my 4 week labs on Harvoni and viral load has gone from 1.4 million to 36. Im encouraged but tring not too get too excited. I previously was treated with ribavarin, victrellous and interferon for 11 months. My viral load went away then durring treatment only to return. Genome type 1a. Wondering how other people with same genome type have responded to Harvoni at both the 4 week labs and 12 week post.

I am also Genotype 1A. I was diagnosed back in 1990. I treated with interferon mono therapy 3 shots of week of just interferon. Then they discovered ribavirin treated with the new pegalated interferon (pegintron) just one shot a week and the riba pills. I was a null responder my viral load didn't change at all on treatment.

I got in a clinical trial and was taking interferon ribavirin and a trial med. I don't remember what it was but is was not incivek (telaprevir) again a null responder.

By the time incivek was approved I has cirrhosis and they would not let me treat because the odds of it working were very low and as I had cirrhosis it could be very dangerous for me.

I also treated with Sovaldi & Olysio about 6 months before Harvoni was approved. I was not detected on treatment but after treatment ended 12 weeks post I was found to have relapsed. That was September 2014

In Nov 2014 I started taking Harvoni for 24 weeks. I later asked my doctor about adding ribavirin because of my past history and having liver cirrhosis. She agreed so I took ribavirin for 15 of those 24 weeks.

I was not detected at 12 weeks, 24 weeks and 44 weeks post treatment and am now cured. I am not the only one with a similar history who was cured by Harvoni.

You will be too

Best of luck on treatment :)
