AST and ALT slowly elevating

Hey guys:
I finished my 8-week treatment with Harvoni and 5 weeks in I was undetected.  My AST and ALT were 26 and 22...yippee...down from the upper 40s.  My family doctor ordered some routine blood work last week and I noticed my AST and ALT numbers were creeping back up...33 and 27...  I have not had my 12 week post treatment labs done yet...that comes next month. I was just wondering if I should be concerned?  These numbers are still within the normal range but still several points higher than last month.  Anyone else have this happen?  Am I not really undetected??

i believe those numbers can fluctuate some what. if u were undetected by 5 weeks im sure your fine, 8 week treatment means your VL was low. did you go to the same lab as for your blood test drawn from family doctor? different machinery values could be a thing too.

Andrew is right. Also, if you had any alcohol or a med or certain supplements, these can raise the numbers.

As long as they are normal I wouldn't worry. Normal is normal that is why it is a range anywhere in normal range is good as another

Thanks everyone....You really put my mind at ease.  I am a worrier...that's just what I do and I am pretty good at it. tee hee

I was never a big drinker and once I was given the opportunity to take Harvoni, I decided I wouldn't drink at all anymore...I am so grateful to have the chance to be free of the virus that I am overly cautious regarding my liver now. So alcohol couldn't be the culprit.

I also put on about 13 pounds in the eight weeks I was on Harvoni.  I am not blaming the drug...it was purely my bad eating habits.  Not sure if that could be it as well???

I did go to the same lab as my previous tests BUT I did remember  that 2 weeks after completing my Harvoni treatment, I resumed taking my Crestor for high cholesterol. I am wondering if that is what made the slight elevation???

So what you have is not an elevation you are in normal range so it is just a statistical variation within normal range.

That being said per the Mayo Clinic some things that can raise liver enzymes are

Certain prescription medications, including statin drugs used to control cholesterol
Drinking alcohol
Heart failure
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Hepatitis C
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
Obesity
Over-the-counter pain medications, particularly acetaminophen (Tylenol, others)

They are talking about causes for above normal test results.

So about you question could it have been going back on Crestor? Maybe, maybe not. Doesn't matter though your results are normal

But really your results can change every day. A blood test is just a snapshot in time at that precise moment it will vary from day to day.

Suppose your earlier result was the higher one and the later one was the lower. Either way it does not mean anything as both results are normal.
