Low hemoglobin, reduced ribavarin
« on: June 21, 2017, 02:29:11 am »
hi all-Am on 4th week of viekira pak+ribovarin, feel great-feels like a breeze so far compared to old interferon treatment. already at week 2 bloods vl down from 13mil to 413!!!!!Cannot believe it am so happy. But got wk 4 bloods done y/day and hemoglobin down to 9 so they want to reduce ribavirin. any thoughts? I feel great, better than I have in years and will go through ANYTHING to be rid of this. How important is the ribavarin? I don't want to jeopardise any success, just want to power through this and get my life back

Congrats on the blood work. I have read other post where they had reduced ribavarin and they still cleared the virus. Sounds like you are doing well other wise.

Wish I could lay my  hands on more recent research, but it appears that the reduction doesn't reduce risk. Here is one article: https://www.hepmag.com/article/ribavirin-reduction-24297-1797671724

thanks for the info-less worried after reading report. Interesting that those who reduce ribavirin seem to be getting better svr results. Maybe they'll ditch it eventually.       To be honest I was on it before with interferon and didn't get good results so I really feel the miraculous response I'm getting is from the new drugs. Also am starting to feel bit weak now so maybe it is time to reduce it a bit. Am so happy with my treatment results so far though-feel I'm looking at a totally different future...

thanks so much for your support. This forum is a lifeline, it's so great. Pity I only found it recently, as I'm heading into treatment. It's been a rough 9 years- I found out when I started to train as a midwife so it fairly scuppered my career and was quite isolating. So thank you for being here now, thanks to the companies whe developed the treatment and here's to a happy ending!
