Lichen Planus & Hep C ?????
« on: July 05, 2014, 09:31:25 am »
Hello I was hoping someone at this site has either had or is struggling with Candida and or Lichen Planus? I have erosive oral lichen planus and have been told by my dermatologist that Hep C might be the contributor or cause and if and when I become SVR the problem may clear up by itself.

Currently I am on Sovaldi/Pegasys/Ribavirin- 12 weeks program for GT 1A Hep C. I was on prednisone and had cleared the systoms, not cured but was able to keep the systoms at bay with daily prednisone treatment but had to discontinue while on the Hep C treatment.

If anyone else has struggled with this problem either before/during or after treatment I would appreciate a response.

The disease systoms are coming back stronger than prior to the start of Hep C treatment (in 5th week) and I need to know if anyone else has any suggestions as my doctor said I will just have to tough it out :(

Sorry for the incorrect spelling on "systoms" should be symptoms.  Studies show that 60% of the people with Hep C also have lichen planus, many don't have symptoms but some do.
Thanks for any response.

Oh I am so sorry - yes, this extrahepatic manifestation is generally made worse during treatment. Although I don't have this issue, I worked with patients who did.

Toughing it out is extreme, but if you can, and you succeed in clearing hep C, you may have relief from lichen planus. I assume they are giving you meds for the candida.

Another option is to try Sovaldi/Olysio which might be easier to tolerate since interferon is probably what is exacerbating this. Also, you may be able to take prednisone with Sovaldi/Olysio.
