drinking wine with riba and sovaldi
« on: August 24, 2014, 01:21:25 pm »
i am entering my third month of riba and sovaldi i have been sober since the beginning, passed thru some pretty debilitating mental fog and body aches, have been doing very well until my siblings arrived in town for my brothers wedding, i drank probably three glasses ofr wine yesterday very watered down with pelligrino yet an equivalent of three reaal glasses. i feel horrible with a jumpy liver off and on today, of course my tolerance has lowered, and i have been feeling
GREAT not drinking, very energetic and healthy. has anyone else succumbed to an
occasional drink with any side effects?

Thanks Zennna.  I Just started week 5.  Haven't drank although my husband is a Master Chef from Italy, hence great food & wine is commonplace for us. I have had sugar though and was warned to watch out for sugar and more. Thank you for sharing and for your honesty because I've only speculated that alcohol would likely not be an option for me any longer.  Please let me know if you choose to try a drink post treatment.

I've just read various blogs, articles etc. Some suggest a Vegan, a few say sugar was hard on your liver and could make you feel sicker. I know I felt like crap after my daughter and I had DQ Blizzard but when it comes to ice cream I'm a diehard so I will just have to choose fresh fruit with mine next time and see if I feel better afterward. Well I get my 4 week lab results today so I'll let you all know my results. I'm just so grateful that coffee is a good thing, don't drink, don't smoke, what do you do?

Since Alcohol is the most destructive to the liver, even a little is not advised. If you have fibrosis then its healing is defer ed. Smoking is a killer to the liver too. Sugar and
Transfats are probably the next harmful. It is not easy sometimes to break even moderate habits, but the goal is to get a bonified cure, keep your eye on the target.
I am having some temptations, so I am talking to myself too, during treatment.

i am with you on that. i feel so good that i dont want to compromise anything! not looking to drink anything for at least the next three months, and after that i feel i have learned new tools in order to live my life alcohol  free.Weird  thing is my doc did not push sobriety, it was not even brought up until i told him i had stopped drinking. then he said hows that working out for you? dont get the flippancy, but dont care. nobodys perfect. and i know what feels good!

Hi I have been off the interferon and riba for 6 months.  I have quit drinking wine in May 2013.  I was told not to have any alcohol after 1 year post lab.  I just tell myself, it's okay not to have a glass of wine today.  I was on the dual therapy for 24 weeks and tested undetectable through out. When I finished the treatment I had post 12 week lab done and it was undetectable.  This Sept 17 will be the post 24 week lab test. Then there is the 1 year due in March 2015.  Hopefully I will be 100% hcv free.  Good Luck to Everyone.  Stay Strong! Be True to your Health.

congratulations on your new status!! I appreciate others opinions since my doctors are vague about the importance of sobriety  during treatment. i see one of them today and will let him know of the residual pain i felt from  i day of wine drinking. And these pings of pain arent *whats that  hurting?" i can  see and feel my poor liver suffering in my minds eye.

Folks,  I drank very little before starting treatment. I enjoyed a glass of wine when eating out on Saturday nights. My Dr. advised me to stop after the first of the year to give my liver a six month rest from the poison and to absolutely not drink anything during treatment. Alcohol poisons the body and that is why you get a buzz. When someone dies from too much booze it is classified as alcohol poisoning.
My Dr. has already told me to not drink for at least a year after being cured, but that never again would be a better option since my fibrosis is F4.

Hello, Virgha828,

Thank You and to you as well!  When I started the dual therapy I was skeptical, too many horror stories.  But I didnt care.  I seen my daughter's father die from liver failure brought on by hcv he had for over 30 years.  I seen the pain in his eyes and the look of being helpless.  I knew at that point I must do what ever it takes to survive this disease.  Thinking of him and how he suffered to the end.  I went to seek advise from my doctor and he sent me to a specialist.  I was true to the end.  Took every pill and every injection as prescribed.  No alcohol.  I feel great today with a new outlook at life.  Thankful for all the support from every one on this site. BE TRUE AND STAY STRONG!

hi everybody! i truly rely on the information each one of you share. so thank you in advance. my labs came back undetectable virus but i am now anemic. red blood count 11.2 i suggested to my doc to stop the 400 riba in the afternoon since  i take 600 in the morning, he is afraid. so with a drop  from 14 pre treatment to this new number 3 months later, i will not delay my next cbc in 3 weeks, if i drop any lower. i  think i should reevaluate  this amount of   riba with my doc/ look forward to your stories!

hey zeena so you gave the drinking a shot, that was your concern in the beginning, so sounds like that wine is a priority. poison in ,poison out. good luck  willie g

Zeena, My red blood cells went from 15 to 12 in 1 month, but seem to be crawling back up.  Yesterday they were at 13.  The Doc described dangerous anemia as less than 10.

A friend of mine is on chemo for breast cancer.  She said she had to give herself shots when her blood got anemic, which it frequently did.   It brought the numbers right back up.

You may stabilize.   They may give you a shot to boost your blood.   They could reduce RIBA.

Nope, my RIBA wasn't reduced, and my blood count is creeping back up.  My body does stuff all on its own.  Sometimes I wish it would send me a text. :).

All of that worry for nothing.   That's the RIBA joke eh?   It's side effect introduces worry (anxiety) into the process, just in case we don't worry enough already.

My Doctors say do not drink anything which I have not for 5 years when I was finally diagnosed besides I would get sick before and did not why.  Liver does not like lots of sugar
