Recommended Labs for Sovaldi/Olysio TX
« on: October 17, 2014, 03:23:40 pm »
Hi all,

Thank you to all you brave posters. I've learned so much from you all!

Since I'm uninsured and starting TX w/ Sovaldi/Olysio next week,  can anyone help me figure out what labs I'll need during and post TX?

I'm my doc's first pt. on this regimen and we live on an island so he's the only game in town.

I already did a hepascore, liver panel, CBC, alpha fetoprotein, & SMAC. That was close to $800, so I need to find out how often I should be tested and what tests to look for so I can find a way to pay for it otherwise I'll wind up eating cat food during TX!

You and your doc may be helped with the following:

http://www.hepatitisc.uw.edu/alternate

Not sure what island you live on, but is there a reason why you are using S/O rather than Harvoni?

Hi,

I applied for the patient assistance programs for both drugs, was approved and the meds were already in the mail by the time Harvoni was approved last Friday. I didn't want to start the process over with Harvoni, but since I'm IL28b CC I'm wishing I would've waited since it looks like I could've been done in 8 weeks.

Thanks for the links. I'm not seeing anything specific to Solvadi/Olysio - just the recommendations for TX using Riba and or INF. I had looked at those earlier and was trying to tease out what was not necessary for Sovaldi/Olysio TX so I can stretch my small budget.

Since early RVR is not predicative of SVR I thought I'd skip the expensive VL tests
until the 8 week mark? I also thought I should get an INR or PT but the Dr. didn't order that. I'm just not sure what the critical labs would be and the appropriate timing. I'm concerned the Dr. Will err on the side of caution and I will be in debt for the next year. Things are very expensive here, even with the kind discount the lab gave me.

If anyone who has finished, or nearly finished Sovaldi/Olysio TX could tell me what labs their docs had them do that would really help.

Sorry, I am am unfamiliar with some of these terms. What is this TX and does it permit them to test you using Riba or whatever that is?  I do not want anything in my body except the stuff that ends in -evir which has almost no side effects. I refuse Pegeron or whatever that other drug is.
And a person has to keep paying $800 for tests?  I am unclear, as I have not been doing anything but get tests here and there.  I like my GP better than the Gastro guy for knowing anything.

Sorry GoingtobeathepC - sounds like a secret code, doesn't it! Tx usually means treatment, but it can also mean transplant, such as post-Tx; riba = ribavirin; ifn or peg =interferon or peginterferon
Ignore the paying for labs part - Skoonibear is uninsured and self-paying for labs.

Hope this helps.
