Injecting Pain Pills 5x Riskier for Hep C Than Using Heroin

A surprising new study has found that injection drug users (IDUs) in the U.S. shooting up prescription opioid painkillers are five times more likely to have the hepatitis C virus than those who inject street drugs like heroin or cocaine.

Scientists said they were unsure exactly why pain pills were associated with increased infection risk, but they had some hypotheses:

I think it is mostly young people these days that are injecting pills, they are easy to get on the streets and probably still with Dr. prescription or steal from a medicine cabinet. When someone is in hospice, addicted family members will steal the painkillers.  Easy to get addicted to.
The young are probably not educated to hepc, should be taught in schools.
