Harvoni 10 weeks
« on: December 28, 2014, 09:38:47 pm »
Hi, I am new to the forum and this is my first post/question. I was diagnosed in April of this year.  My viral load when I started Harvoni 10 weeks ago was 1.5 mil. My 4 wk test and my 8 wk test came back <15. My Dr was concerned about that at 4 wks and started me on ribavirin also, so I have been taking that also for 5 wks.  I was initially approved by my insurance company for 8 wks, but after the test my Dr asked for 4 more wks and they agreed. I'm concerned about the tests because my Dr seems concerned. She can't explain why it is still detected when she felt it should not be. I am just wondering if anyone has had this happen. I called Gilead just to perhaps get some reassurance and the nurse said the 12 wk test after treatment will determine whether or not I am cured.

Hang in there that does seem unusual yes. Just know that if this doesn't work there are other treatments available that you can try.

If it helps a lot of us like myself have failed multiple treatments with the old meds.

Hoping you get good news soon. When is your 12 week test?

My 12 week test is 1/15.  I saw the other new medicine (AbbVie) was approved recently. After reading through the forum and seeing the histories of others, I feel incredibly fortunate with my situation.  To be diagnosed in April of this year and then on groundbreaking meds a few months later is something I thank God for every day.

I am new to the terms used in the forum. By tx do you mean treatment extended? If so, treatment will be a total of 12 wks.  I do not have cirrhosis. My liver biopsy showed me at a grade 2.

Hi lucky

Here are a few common abbreviations

TX = treatment
DX = diagnosis
SVR = sustained viral response  i.e. SVR 12 meant 12 weeks sustained viral response 12 weeks after treatment has ended
EOT = end of treatment last day taking meds

Hope that helps
