Feeling Chilled on Harvoni
« on: January 24, 2015, 07:49:18 pm »
Any of you also feel this? I tend to want to have the heat up more than normal, and dressed warmly when I go outdoors. It's Winter here in East Tennessee, USA. I have long johns on today. I think I might take a nice warm bath.

I take my Harvoni at 10 pm sharp, In the beginning it felt like I was waking up with a slight hangover and than a few weeks later I thought I caught the flu but my temperature was normal. I figure my body was releasing natural interferons due to Harvoni lowering my Viral count to almost zero? yea, I had the same thing happen not to mention some minor skin irritations. No real headaches though ! I take 26th pill tonight, 58 to go.

Maybe I am lucky but I feel boringly normal. Had a few mild headaches at first but my biggest complaint is I miss my Prilosec for my heartburn.

Hi Lynn,

I know a 50+ year young guy on another Hep C forum that began Harvoni a few days ago and is taking Prilosec but at a different time of day.

I don't believe in that stuff, and as a matter of fact, I think meds like Prilosec are dangerous and very detrimental. When you kill all your stomach acid, you also lower your ability to break down proteins and absorb calcium and zinc. I used to get heartburn often but I controlled it with drinking milk with each meal, and now what I do is control it by balancing my meals. If you eat a meal of all or most acid producing foods, like say Lasagna & garlic bread for instance, you're sure going to get heartburn. But if you have enough vegetables along with it, you get a balanced meal, and no heartburn. That's what I've found. You can balance your pH and meals and body without meds if you really want to. That stuff is bad news! :) People don't eat enough alklalinizing foods like fruit and vegetables. Vegetables can balance your meals and your health without taking heartburn meds. You can prevent all kinds of diseases and conditions by balancing your pH. You wouldn't believe it if I told you some of them. Some people are unwilling to do something different than most people do, and change, and eat foods they aren't used to eating. Broccoli is very alkalizing. So are most greens.

Lynn, I LOVE your description because that's exactly how I feel! I'm on my 19th pill and at this point the only thing I've noticed are I am more alert and I wake up disgustingly early, (4-5am) otherwise there is not a day goes by that I don't wonder if they slipped me a sugar pill : )

Why do you wake up that early? Are you rested then or is Harvoni giving you insomnia? Sometimes I get to sleep fast but if I wake up before I've gotten enough sleep and can't get back to sleep, that can screw up your day also.

Hi Joe

I have a hiatal hernia that is why I take Prilosec even milk gives me heartburn and reflux. Also as I have esophageal varicies the acid that iis constantly in my throat  could further weaken the walls of any enlarged blood vessels increasing the risk of a bleed. So  just will have to live with fewer stomach enzymes.

Yes you can take Prilosec at the sametime as Harvoni onan empty stomach but with my treatment history and multiple failure and having cirrhosis for over 7 years I feel like I may be running out of time and options so that is why I do not want to risk messing up my treatment and even asked to add Ribavirin just in case it makes a difference.

Just wanted to add a "me too" anecdote.  I too was taking Prilosec until a friend of mine told me the trick about eating celery after meals.  It took a few weeks, but eventually I was able to get rid of the Prilosec and have had no heartburn symptoms since (knock on wood).   Turns out it's not just celery, but pretty much any vegetable works to counteract acidic food.

Lynn K,

I hear you on that. We're all different. Some say that people with acid reflux actually have weak stomach acid output and should take HCl (betaine hydrochloride) which is hydrochloric acid in capsules. I was taking a lot of HCl many years ago but I no longer do because it seems to lower my Magnesium too much.
Dr Jonathan V Wright of Kent, WA has a book out called "Why Stomach Acid is Good For You". :)

Apache,

Celery is very alkalizing and I used to juice a lot of celery and carrot. I think some people get carried away with the alkalizing thing, while many others don't even seem aware of the importance of pH balance and balancing meals. :)
It's a simple thing anyone can do to help improve their health.
