Relapser from NAFLD to Cirrhosis fast, now on round 2 w/Harvoni.
« on: February 02, 2015, 06:03:56 pm »
Hi there,
Any other non-responder relapsers with cirrhosis on Harvoni for 24 weeks?
I am a relapser (interferon, riba & boceprovir) in 2011. In 2011 my liver was diagnosed as NAFLD f1. After treating then I stupidly didn't remind my gastroenterologist to test me periodically after getting an undetectable at the end of TX (insert tone of irony here) I was never tested 3 months later to see if I had SVR. I thought I was cured.
Flash forward october 2014. Feeling fluish. heart pounding, chills, headache, dry skin, joint pain. Ended up in ER. They tested for everything heart related. Full blood panel etc. Only thing off. 200 ALT and AST liver test results. Fibroscan reveals stage 4 liver disease/cirrhosis. Confirmed by ultrasound and MRI. VL 800,000 (not crazy high) but the liver damage freaked me out!

Started research (as I do) wanted Harvoni. Period. Riba and Peg, do not agree with me. Was on procrit 1st time around. Very anemic, mouth sores, severe rash, hair loss, exhaustion. Turned down, appealed, turned down, missing lab/test results/ re sent/ finally approved. On day 14. Still tired with yes, liver pain, tolerable headaches, dry skin. But all in all totally liveable. Tho lucky me, I can work from home.

Just want to connect with patients with cirrhosis mainly, non responders next, on harvoni 3rd.
Thanks Peeps!

Hi Tpropane,

I meet two of your three criteria! Welcome to the forum and Harvoni! I did a write up which will give you a little background on how I ended up here:

Hi Tpropane

Welcome and good luck on treatment.

I just finished week 11 of Harvoni and week 2 of Riba as it was added later. So my treatment will consist of 9 weeks of just Harvoni and 15 weeks of Harvoni with Ribavirin for a total of 24 weeks of Harvoni and 15 weeks of Ribivirin.

As you can see from my mini bio below I was a 3 time null responder to interferon based treatments althought they did not let me try Victrelis (boceprevir) or INCIVEK (telaprevir) as by the time they were released I had cirrhosis diagnosed in Jan 2008.

I also treated with Sovaldi and Olysio for 12 weeks and was found to have relapsed when tested 12 weeks after I was treated.

Very surprised your doctor did not have you come back at 6 months post treatment to confirm SVR24 that should have been the protocol at that time they really let you down there.

So I guess I qualify on all 3 criteria you were looking for  "cirrhosis mainly, non responders next, on Harvoni 3rd."

Again welcome
