Harvoni and Antibotics ?
« on: March 12, 2015, 04:08:42 pm »
Anyone have experience using antibiotics (Augmentin or Z pack) while on Harvoni?

Im 6 days into my 12 week course of Harvoni, side effects minimal (light head ache and slightly more tired) and less daily. But Im probably developing a sinus infection. Its been a chronic problem for me 2-3 times a year I need Augmentin or a Z pack to clear the infection. Ive checked the medication information, called Support Path and the RN forwarded me to a Pharmacist as well. Their answer is they have not tested against all medications but that Augmentin and Z pack dont come up as contraindicated. They (Support Path) suggested that I check with local pharmacy that I get Harvoni from to see if anything reported.

Anyone with any additional info would help.

Thanks

I would double check with the local pharmacist just for some extra input. I think you'll be alright and I haven't heard of any contraindications regarding antibiotics.

Hope your sinus infection gets better. I've had a few over the past couple of years and they're no fun.

Best wishes, Mike

Thanks Mike no did call and my local pharmacy does not have any patients on Harvoni they have not dispensed it yet. Seems it comes from the speciality Pharmancy now. I know mine is mailed from a specialist Pharmancy to me through my express scripts.

This is off topic but I see in your profile you were treated 01 and recently. Can I ask did the first treatment work and the. You relapsed to positive or was the first not successful

Thanks

Hi SIXFOOTFOUR,

No. My first treatment only kicked the crap out of me, and I failed to clear the virus (null responder). It was a 48 week treatment of PEG Interferon and Ribavirin. I made it to about week 40, as it became evident that I would not clear the virus and I had every side effect imaginable.

My second treatment in 2014 did the trick, and I was cured via a 12 week course of Solvaldi+PEG Interferon+Ribavirin. It was no fun doing the PEG and RIBV again; but it was well worth it.

That's the great thing about Harvoni - no Interferon or Ribavirin.

Best wishes, Mike
