Treatment Update
« on: March 27, 2015, 10:36:31 pm »
Began Harvoni February 10, 2015.

Hemogram W/PLT CT

Hepatitis C Quant PCR

HCV Quantitation

Tested (2) weeks after starting treatment : < 46 IU/ml after previously having shown a viral load of >1,450,000 before starting treatment.

Tested (4) weeks after startiing treatment:  Just received reults:
 * < 15 (NOTD) HCV LOG IU/ml  * < 1.63 (NOTD)

The quantitative range of this assay is 15 to 100,000,000 IU/ml (1.2 to 8.0 log IU/ml)

Results below 15 IU/ml will be reported as Not Detected or Detected - HCV RNA detected below the limit of quantitation.

5-6 weeks of treatment still to go of a 12 week regime.

Amazing results in such a short time. Harvoni - Truly a wonder drug. :)

KimInTheForest,

Thanks Kim,

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. I never would have thought something could work that quickly. Especially after having gone through Pegasys and Ribavarin treatment 12-14 years ago for 52 weeks and having been deemed a null responder.

I hope everyone has great results like this. Compared to the past, this so far has been a walk in the park. The only thing that I have had in the way of side-effects is some feelings of exhaustion. I find myself sleeping a lot, the further I have gotten into the treatment.

Thank you once again,

Peter

So good to hear, Peter! I hope to start on 12 weeks Harvoni (plus Ribavirin in my case, as a Geno 3) in May. Does seem to be the wonder drug. :)

You are taking Harvoni and riba as a genotype 3. Is this in a trial? I thought Harvoni is only for GT 1 and that the recommended tx for GT3 is Sovaldi and riba for 24 weeks. Guess I need to read up on GT 3 treatment again
Genotype 1a
1978 contracted, 1990 Dx
1995 Intron A failed
2001 Interferon Riba null response
2003 Pegintron Riba trial med null response
2008 F4 Cirrhosis Bx
2014 12 week Sov/Oly relapse
10/14 fibroscan 27 PLT 96
2014 24 weeks Harvoni 15 weeks Riba
5/4/15 EOT not detected, ALT 21, AST 20
4 week post not detected, ALT 26, AST 28
12 week post NOT DETECTED (07/27/15)
ALT 29, AST 27 PLT 92
24 week post NOT DETECTED! (10/19/15)
44 weeks (3/11/16)  fibroscan 33, PLT 111, HCV NOT DETECTED!

Yes, trial. This combo for 12 weeks had a 100% cure rate for tx-naive geno 3 people in ELECTRON-2 study in New Zealand. Of course, NZ trials have become legendary for achieving cure rates that no one else can duplicate. Still, I have seen other trial results for this combo at 12-weeks with Geno 3s that did very well - more than 90% cured. So I am quite hopeful that I will finally rid myself of this virus that has been in my body for more than 40 years.

Thanks very much Lynn! :) I am really excited. But also on pins and needles until I get the call for my final screening appointment. Nothing is a done deal til then. It is absolutely the best chance that I as a Geno 3 person have available to me right now.
