New Viral Hepatitis Numbers from the CDC
« on: June 30, 2015, 12:58:50 pm »
The CDC just came out with new estimates on acute/chronic cases of hepatitis. The latest stats, broken down by virus type:

Hepatitis A (HAV): around 3,500 acute infections, 80 deaths.

Hepatitis B (HBV): 19,800 acute infections, up to 1.4 million chronic infections, 1,873 deaths.

Hepatitis C (HCV): up to 101,400 acute infections, between 2.7 and 3.9 million chronic infections, 19,368* deaths.

*NOTE: Advocates say the range of acute/chronic HCV in the population is much likely higher since we really don’t have an effective surveillance system in our country.
