hep A/B vaccine while on TX
« on: September 23, 2015, 08:34:02 pm »
I'm wondering if anybody has experienced what I have or has any comment.
Since being diagnosed with HCV in 2006 I have rejected TX's offered and supplemented my diet with liver support vitamins and herbs.  When I heard of Harvoni I decided to check it out...very excited to clear the virus!!!  I also, after years of Doctors reciting treatment options and filling me fearful outcomes if I didn't do what they suggested, I decided to turn my health over to their suggestions this time...my decision was made even before going in for appt.
On my first appt I was advised to stop taking my herbs because they could be affecting my heightened ast/alt counts.  That day I took blood tests...lots of test but I'm only talking about viral load in this post...5,900,000.  One month later I was to start taking TX.  Oh yes, I add also avoided the hep a/b vaccine but decided to go ahead with that because I was tired of living in fear of picking that up but I had previously been told it will raise your viral load.  So I get the vaccine and 2 days later I take pre TX blood test...viral load jumped to 12,000,000.  Hmmm....It has me a bit concerned that every time I go in for test it may affect viral load count and the final shot for vaccine coincides with post 12 week test!!!
Yes I did ask many Pharmacists and Gilead support path but they are just reading off the same info you can read yourself on their website and said it should be fine.  I'm thinking of putting the vaccine off until I am done with TX.  My Doctor has no answer but put in a advisory request to Gilead.  Anyone have any suggestions. I am so excited about clearing this virus...everything is going great with TX and I have a wonderful attitude other than possibly getting false results because of vaccine!   :-\

I also have a Hep B vaccine that coincides with treatment. It is my final one and would rather put it off just like you but my doctor says theres nothing wrong with it. He seemed very confident and hes highly reputable so who am I to argue.

It doesn't really make sense that it would cause the viral load to spike but it did for some reason.  I did quit my supplements per Doctors suggestion but my ast and alt went up also.  Not so sure she is on the right path with the stop the supps advise.  I still take a few but am holding off on a lot of them, don't want to do anything to stop the death of those little critters!!!  I am to get my next vaccine next Monday and my 4 week TX blood test Wednesday...I'm getting the blood test first!  My doctor agreed with this.

Coastal girl and Deathtohep,

Me three! I'd say rationally, once you're undetected, you're undetected. But, this ridiculous bastage of a disease can make us a wee bit irrational. I'm putting it off till SVR. I did the first 2 already. It's just not worth even an infinitesimal chance... My three cents :D

It has been fairly acceptable with the old tx but I don't know about the new tx. If your specialist said to do it I would trust she/ he. I had flu and tetanus. A and B weren't suggested this time. However the viral load jumps up and down all the time for reasons unknown. It was have been a normal flux. You'll still clear with a high V/L though. Cal  :)
