Starting Sovaldi today!
« on: December 03, 2015, 09:57:40 am »
Hi, all.  I haven't posted in a long time since I had nothing new to report, but I do now!  I'm starting Sovaldi and riba today, or at least it's supposed to be delivered today.  I'm so excited!  Can't wait to put this behind me.  I know there could be side effects but what a relief it will be to be headed in the right path.  Keeping all fingers crossed for a reasonably easy time of it.

Just wanted to share.  Hope you all are doing well.

Hi, Lu -- Glad you are finally on your way to getting rid of HCV. Having skimmed your previous posts, I see that you've had to wait a very long time for treatment, and you've already achieved one of your major goals: avoiding interferon. Feeling excited is a great way to embark on treatment, and before you know it, you'll be excited by the much improved lab results you'll be getting. Bon voyage!

Gnatty
9/29/71 transfusions
HCV genotype 1a
7/09/15-9/30/15 Harvoni

Before treatment:
Viral Load 9,490,582
FibroScan 19.5 kPa [F4]
ALT 262
AST 217
ALP 183

Most recent:
VL still UNDETECTED (SVR 102)
FibroScan 7.6 kPa [F1-2]
ALT 15
AST 20
ALP 85

I feel very confident about it, really, mainly because I hear so many good things from "survivors".  You all make it so much easier!  So glad this forum exists for us newbies.

BTW, we have the same first name, Lucinda.  There aren't very many of us, so that caught my eye.  Nice to meet you!

Meds just arrived!  I guess I'll wait until tonight to start.  Any tips on best times or ways to take it, i.e., with food or without, right before bedtime, etc.?

Thanks for all your good wishes.

Always take Ribavirin with food. I take mine at 8 and 8. Sometimes earlier at night, but I have to rest well before taking the dose or I may not be able to keep it down. Been sipping Ginger Ale (ginger helps with nausea) and resting after I feed family and do dishes. This usually allows me to eat and keep down a small snack (instead of dinner) with my meds.

One more question:  If I were to upchuck after taking it, would I take more?  I'm assuming not.  That's probably a really dumb question.

I will read all the info that came with it too, of course, just wanted to finish working first.  I appreciate any insider info you have.

Thanks!

Despite the fact that it says vomiting is a side effect, most don't. As for whether you should take more, that depends on the timing and only your doc can make the decision. Unless you vomit for other reasons, its unlikely to happen.

Here's some info to help w/ side effects: http://www.hepmag.com/articles/2512_10798.shtml

The HCV Advocate has good info too. Also, I wrote 2 books on treatment (which I don't think you'll need), but you can read quite a it for free on Amazon's "What's Inside" feature.

Welcome Lu,

You've come to the right place.  Everyone here is a family of one.  I waited for about a year before getting the go ahead for Harvoni.  I really appreciate the information you get from members in the forum.

Keep us updated on your progress.

Lu,
Do you have a smart phone or tablet? I am writing about an app called HepCure and it looks like something I wished I had during treatment. http://www.hepcure.org/

I took riba last night and Sovaldi/riba this morning, with no side effects.  I feel fine.  Answered prayers!  I'm so blessed.

No, I don't have a smart phone or tablet, just a desktop that I use mainly for work.  I work at home, so I never saw the need for either.  I don't do social media since my life is just not that interesting, at least to anyone else  :)

Thanks for the help!  I'll look into the resources you've mentioned from my desktop.

Lu,

Let me just say that my side effects have been a bit on the severe side. Many people have little to no side effects. If I rest prior to the fatigue consuming my whole being the nausea and vomiting are not as severe. So, mornings are usually ok if I eat toast, egg, something light. Lunch is a struggle. Dinner time is hard, but I just don't eat with the family. I get things cleaned up and rest for at least an hour then eat a small snack with my meds.

Lucinda: I tried downloading that app. It won't let me register. You have to have a provider link. It looks like a great app. Would love to at least look at it even though I just have 16 days left of treatment.

I didn't have a provider link and was able to download, so I don't know what the snag was - I skipped a lot of the requested info, so perhaps that was the issue?

Thank you!  I actually feel like I'm already healthier and more energetic.  Probably all in my head, but whatever.  I'll take it wherever I can get it  :).
