Correct Prescribing Protocol for Genotype 1a
« on: February 15, 2016, 11:20:19 pm »
Hi All

As I read threads, I see many people are on different meds with/without combination drugs.

Curious - My question is
....."for genotype 1a without chirrosis and viral load less than 800,000, although still detected at 4 weeks (VL 64), is HARVONI ONLY for 12 wks the best prescribed protocol method to rid me of genotype 1a or should another medication been added?".......

Have GI appt this Wednesday for a 10 week lab......hopefully I will be nondetected, then counting days to end of my 12 wks.

Thanks.
1A
Likely infected 1970's
VL 575,000
Liver Functions normal (ALT/AST)
F0 Fibroscan
Started Harvoni 12-5-15
4week labs 63 VL
6week labs 21 VL
2-17-16 NONDETECTED :) prior to 12 week EOT
3-28-16 EOT 4 week testing = nondetected
5-11-16 EOT 10 week testing = nondetected

Hi JackN,

Yes. You are taking state of the art medications/treatment for GT 1a w/o cirrhosis.

There are various treatment options available for GT 1a's - and specific drug combinations are used for different clinical pictures.

Harvoni is state of the art medication and you should be cured after 12 weeks of treatment!

Best wishes, Mike

Per the prescribing information sheet for Harvoni

https://www.gilead.com/~/media/Files/pdfs/medicines/liver-disease/harvoni/harvoni_pi.pdf

Genotype 1
Treatment-naïve without cirrhosis or with compensated cirrhosis (Child-Pugh A)
Treatment-experienced without cirrhosis

For both these groups the recommended treatment is Harvoni for 12 weeks

In fact as you don't have cirrhosis and if you have never treated before:

"HARVONI for 8 weeks can be considered in treatment-naïve genotype 1 patients without cirrhosis who have pre-treatment HCV RNA less than 6 million IU/mL"

So as all have said 12 weeks is appropriate for you

Best of luck on treatment
