Harvoni and zyrtec
« on: February 19, 2016, 07:51:02 pm »
I was wondering if anyone here had to take zyrtec for allergies while on treatment.  I am having horrible post nasal drip,  Benedryl helps for a day and then the drip is back.

My Doctor gave me the okay for Benedryl or Zyrtec, but I am still afraid of taking medicine while on treatment.

I have taken a total of about 3 or 4  Benedryls while on treatment. Allergies flared about  3 weeks ago.  I want to try Zyrtec 24 hour anyone have experience with this?
I am actually worried about the large amounts of mucus going into my stomach from the post nasal drip messing with the Harvoni absorption.

My 4 week blood test showed 13 copies(test measured down to 12) of the virus, down from 2.5 million.  I am now undetected, taken at 12 weeks. I have no idea when I became undetected.    Doctor did not test in between 4 and 12 weeks.  Have 10 more weeks to go.  F4 14 on Fibroscan.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

Gilead's prescribing information for Harvoni does not have any warnings about taking Benadryl or Zyrtec (or its common name: Cetirizine). Since the prescribing information was revised just this month (that's the version I searched), you should be fine.

Steve 76, I, too, have pretty bad seasonal allergies and will be starting 12 wks of Harvoni in the next day or two. So I am anticipating some allergy flareups in that time period. I will be talking to my doctor's office as soon as my meds are delivered and planned specifically to review this topic (Zyrtec or Claritin), even tho I know the Harvoni drug interaction chart does not list any problems with these antihistamines. I'll let you know what I hear, but also ask your doctor, as we are all different.  Glad you're on the Harvoni train! FT
