Hi,

I should be starting on a 12-week treatment with Harvoni next Friday, the 13th. :) I have a colonoscopy scheduled for the 21st.

Knowing the prep for the colonoscopy includes fasting and drinking vast amounts of a prescription solution to, I assume, clean out the intestinal tract, I was wondering if maybe I should delay it till after the Harvoni treatment.

The doctor didn't mention it, he might have forgotten since a GI is performing it, and tho I'll call my Dr and the GI guy about it, I was just curious what others think.

Hi again,

I absolutely would wait until at least 2 weeks after treatment ends.  Even if my Doctor said it was okay I wouldn't do it until after.   Or wait to start treatment?  Just my thoughts!  Brie

I'd talk to the Harvoni doctor, but I'd wait unless there is some urgency to do it now. You'll also have to go under anesthesia, so how does that work with an antiviral? Discuss with your doctors! FT

If it's a routine screening colonoscopy I would consider postponing it. Or check with the GI and see if you could do the colonoscopy sooner (before the 13th).

If the colonoscopy is not routine and should not be put off - there are other ways to do a bowel prep such as fleets enemas or old fashioned soap suds/warm water till clear.

I did have a upper endoscopy while I was on treatment took my dose after I was clear headed and I was taking my Harvoni in the evening anyway so anesthesia isn't a problem. I think if you take your pill the day before as normal then start your cleanse then the next day after the procedure take your meds I would guess that should work but best to ask your doctor how to proceed or just put off the colonoscopy for now if it is not urgent.

Hi Lynn K and all Responders,

Thank you, everyone, for your replies.

When I first joined this forum, I posted 2 different threads. I see now I should have contained myself to one thread. Since the other is more generally titled, "Starting 12-week course of Harvoni next week; some questions", I think going forward I will concentrate on posting there.

Of course, if anyone posts here with tips, etc. I will respond, and thanks again for taking the time to offer your help!

@Lynn K – What a trooper! And thanks for the reply. I hope to have a quiet course, my body seems pretty tolerant of medications.

regards
rkevins
