HEP-C Treatment Started
« on: June 21, 2015, 02:52:32 pm »
Hi All,
I have recently started my treatment on 09-Jun-2015 using SOFOSBUVIR Generic Sovaldi HEPCVIR(from CIPLA) 400MG/Day & RIBAVIRIN 1000MG/Day. I have got 2 questions:
1. I have gone through multiple forums & people has been complaining of side effects of RIBAVIRIN. I am not seeing any effect at all, Its almost 2 weeks now. But let me share I'm very active & doing regular exercise. Hope my medicine is working.
2. My METAVIR score was 13( FIBROSPECT-II Index=13,Consistent with Metavir=F0-F1). Although I'm on medicine will the virus still be causing Cirrhosis to my lever? If yes, what we have to do to cure lever post treatment?

Hi,
I had a similar experience, and didn't really feel ribavirin's effects until about week 4 - for me, the effects came on slow, and I adapted to them, but I was quite ready to move on about the time treatment ended. And then it took about a month to start feeling better.

Thank you so much for your valuable time. I am strong enough & highly determined to complete the treatment. I had my first blood test post 2 weeks of treatment. results are good, AST=36, ALT=35. But bad new is hemoglobin has gone down to 13.6 from 14.9(before starting treatment). Doctor had advised to go for another blood test after 2 weeks. But That's not a problem I will bring it up, Started taking plenty of SPINACH & POMEGRANATE. Please do recommend if you know other fruits/vegetables which will help me bring up my hemoglobin levels.

Eating well is an asset, but we don't have data showing that it will improve hgb. There is a small study showing that B12 may have some value, but again, may not be directly related to hgb. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22810757 We now have some evidence suggesting that dramatic drops in hgb from ribavirin may be genetic.

Nice ALT/AST!

Thanks a lot for such valuable information. I will discuss it with my doctor, If B12 would help maintain my HGB or might help with treatment. Appreciate a lot.

Just wanted to share I started B12 after confirmation with my doctor's. Also recently I have been consuming plenty of SPINACH, Etc & after 2 weeks my HGB has gone up.It was 13.6 on 13-Jun & 13.8 on 07-Jul. Best news is No HCV RNA detected after 28 days of medicine. Lever parameters are normal. I'm very excited & looking forward to complete my treatment. RIBAVIRIN is showing some symptoms of tiredness etc But I'm keeping up with my regular exercise.

Hi All, Would like to share with you that I had completed my treatment on 23-NOV-2015. It was started on 09-JUN-2015. I got my HCV RNA tested 2 times in between(7-JUL & 29-SEP) & results were negative. I was little anemic in between but it recovered on its own during treatment itself. Apart from that I didn't had any other side effect. But I was so committed during medication. I had multiple reminders & Trackers setup for my medication. I didn't even missed a single dose.

Looking forward for my tests again after 3  & 6 months. Thanks for all of your support.

Also would like to share that I was declined SOVALDI coverage by insurance in USA. So I arranged the medicines from India. It costed me just 1500 USD for 6 months. Rather I would have paid 6000 USD for my out of pocket to local Insurance. I had insurance in India also so whatever I spend on buying medication that was covered by Indian medical Insurance. It's been awhile since I provided a post and I wanted to share my journey to date. Back around October 2015 I began my post by sharing that I was hoping to receive Harvoni but was concerned over other posts that getting approved by the insurance company could be a nightmare. Shortly after it was discovered I had stage 2 cancer and in December underwent surgery. The Hep C treatment issue was on hold. I had a successful surgery and after a period of healing I resumed working with my Gastroenterologist for approval to receive Harvoni. Surprisingly my insurance took no issue with the request and I am now into my forth week of treatment -- and with no side effects. I am excited to see the end results and finally be cured of the Hep C. Good luck to all of you who are on your own journey and I will be praying for you.

Thanks and I did take note of your readings, which are really great.

When I started the Harvoni 4 weeks ago my AST was 76 and my ALT 100. My HCV RNA was 259422. After 4 weeks my AST is 30 and ALT 25. For my HCV RNA, nothing was detected. My doctor is on vacation this week and when he gets back I'm wondering if he will tell me that I will only need 8 weeks of the Harvoni instead of 12. I'll hope for the best.

Wish you all the best Bob, Will look forward for good news. With 4 week of treatment your AST,ALT & RCA results were very good. Please keep us posted.

Hi All, I would like to share that my test results has been favorable. No HCV RNA detected after 6 month completion of medication.

One thing additionally I did was to get all of my family member tested & all were found negative.

Please suggest if I have to go for any additional tests? I hope I'm fully recovered. Any specific lever test for any damage done by HEPC Virus? Do I really need to worry once cured.
