do side effects go away?
« on: May 13, 2016, 10:17:12 am »
Hello all,
I am in week 12 of my Harvoni treatment and was just wondering about side effects. Some of which that came about almost immediately... low energy, headaches, insomnia. To the ones that took a couple of weeks mainly joint pain and muscle aches.
I have had moderate to severe joint and muscle pain for years due to arthritis and from what I was told effects of HEP C.
The symptoms I have in my lower back and legs (primarily knees) now are pretty intense. Severe weakness and throbbing that leads to an overall flu like scenario.
I am grateful for my undetected viral count and normal AST-ALT numbers up to this point.
But my lord I am praying the later side effects do start resolving themselves upon the completion of my treatment.
My doctors didn't seem to think these symptoms were related to the Harvoni. And primary side effects listed don't mention them. I must say I was a little relieved to see through this forum that there are others with this condition.
Everybody reacts to things in there own way. I hope this helps others and good luck to you all.

Hi Sparky and welcome to the forum! I, too, am in week 12 of Harvoni treatment -- finish the last pill next Tuesday and go in for my EOT labs.

I am sorry to hear you've had a hard time w/ sides. Sounds like these 3 mos. have not been very fun. This drug affects each of us differently, as you've seen from the various posts here.  I haven't really had any sides to speak of --  I'm curious to see how I fare once I take that last pill. It appears that most sides do dissipate over time, from what I've read here. I am sure you will get some feedback from others on this. What I wanted to say was that we just don't know how our bodies will really react until we take them, with the studies showing that most, but certainly not all (!) overall do pretty well.  There is a lot still to learn about these DAAs, and your scenario is another part to be figured out. How long did you have HCV? Seems like that may be a part of the puzzle.

Congrats on getting thru your treatment and on your way to SVR, and I hope you will be feeling better very soon --- maybe after that last pill is down! Keep us posted and take care, FT

You are not the only one with these very symptoms, I too am getting more back pain, leg and feet cramps and swollen feet that are quite debilitating.
I have 2 pills left of my first bottle of a 12 week treatment so don't feel alone.
I am hoping that we both feel much better after treatment is done.
I feel like the virus and the drug are trying to escape my body any way they can.
But I am very hopeful that you and I will feel better after treatment!
Keep us posted! I really want to know if others like me with these symptoms get relief at some point.
I just wish Gilead were documenting our side effects, as they keep telling everyone that what we are experiencing has nothing to do with the treatment. Which doesn't help us to feel very good about a future prognosis on the sides.
To both of us getting a renewed energy level with less pain.
Good luck and keep in touch!

Hello All,
Today was my last pill. I can't wait for the the day I report to you all that my legs and things are on the rebound. Meanwhile I will just carry on and wait.

Hi Sparky... I'm new to the forum and recently completed 12 weeks of Viekira tx. So far I'm non-detectable and will have my 3-month post tx blood work in one more month. I also experienced some mild joint/arthritis discomfort before treatment that became worse with the meds. Mine is in the hands and elbows and it's taking some time for it to improve. I appreciate you and others sharing in such detail about your experiences with side effects; it helps me to not feel "crazy"! We are the trailblazers with these medications so it's up to us to support each other and share our experiences so that someday hopefully it will be easier to let people know what to expect in terms of side effects and recovery time. I hope your discomfort eases soon and your tx is successful!
Blessings:may we all be Hep free:)

I am also having symptoms of pain. Some started in the last 3 years were right leg and foot numbness, leg cramps, back pain. Now on treatment they are severe, and the added gut ache and bloating with nausea.
I have had a few good days but for the most part I am miserable.
I hope to fully recover but it seems to be something none of us will know until we see what happens long after treatment.
Good luck to us all

Morab, I'm so sorry to hear you're suffering so many severe side effects from your treatment. Are you able to manage some of them with antacids and pain meds, at least? I do hope so. You shouldn't have to be in so much discomfort.

Morab, I'm really sorry to hear this.  Perhaps a call to your GP to let him know of these sides might get you some relief?  Many members on this forum tolerate taking a host of other meds that don't negatively impact the Harvoni, so I'd let him know how badly you're feeling.  We want you to feel better during this fight if at all possible!! I did see my GP this week, ultrasound was today.
So far today is an ok day, like riding a wave.
Going to the chiropractor this afternoon, hope to get some relief from a good popping!
Thanks for the concern!
