Hep C rash - before and after?
« on: January 28, 2017, 09:54:45 am »
Quick background - for nearly a year now I have been having what appears to be quite severe ezcema on the inside of my thighs, behind my knees and all down the back of my calves. I am quite pale, so the red patches all over my legs are quite noticeable. Prior to finding out that I have Hep C, i had been to the doctors and have tried antibiotics and creams to no effect. Since finding out about the Hep C, my doctor has advised that it may be linked to Hep C as some patients have experienced skin rashes as a result. She has recommended that I do not seek any further medication/antibiotics for my rashes until after I have started my Hep C meds as if its linked, it should hopefully go

My question:
Has anyone else experienced having rashes on their body whilst being positive for Hep C? And for those that have since been 'cured' and are no longer on medication, has the rash gone?

As it's summer over here in australia it's so frustrating to not be able to wear shorts :(

Rashes from inflammatory immune responses are common with HCV but rarely severe in nature. The most common one is contact dermatitis or chemical sensitivity. For years I could not use deodorants with product stabilizing, perfume agents and alum. Some laundry detergents would make my skin dry to the extent that it would crack and even bleed.

This has improved post treatment and contact dermatitis from frequent hand washing, I am a professional cook, has been reduced to simple dry skin which can now be taken care of with good hand cream after work.

Again it seems some of us have immune system issues during infection which go beyond what seems normal. The list of immune centered issues with long term HCV infection can seem to be totally unrelated to HCV. But it is fair to say that HCV messes with some peoples immune systems to the extent that it creates hyper immunity reactions and in some cases skin and rash issues.

Here's to your upcoming treatment and a new life free from this Godforsaken disease!

Cheers
Eric
