New here! Question re: blood sugar and Mavyret!
« on: April 24, 2018, 07:35:37 pm »
Just wanted to take a moment to say hello! I am in the process of starting treatment. I've had all my bloodwork done, and tomorrow I go in for an Ultrasound of my liver. I do not see my GI Dr. again until May 17th, however, I am I able to see my results, and his notes online. It looks like he's intending for me to start on Mavyret, for 8 weeks at my follow up visit. I've been lurking for the last few weeks reading up on the different treatments, and their side effects. I'm also a type 2 diabetic, and I was wondering if anyone had issues with their blood sugar during their Mavyret treatment?? If you have any advice or suggestions, please share! What a great community this is! :)

This is a link to the Mavyret prescribing information sheet which you will receive along with your prescription. I did not see any reference to diabetes on the document.

I assume your doctor knows about all your medical conditions and medications they should be the best resource to answer your questions.

If you are taking metformin there are no known interactions with Mavyret.

 Welcome to the community!
I do not want to scare you away from treatment but be aware that Mavyret just caused changes in vision that did not resolve 3 weeks after treatment for me. You have diabetes and this puts you at risk of macular degeneration. Please, do detailed vision check. Go to the specialist, tell him that you about to take "high risk medication" and ask to document your visual acuity, color perception, visual field. If you start treatment and develop blurred vision- panic. And share with us. Oh, yeah, and do the cardiac workup- I had cardiac symptoms as well. Also they say- most of individuals have no side effects. As of diabetes... Sorry, I am not on meds, but I noted that if I didn't eat every 3 hours, I was starting to have dizziness, light-headiness and strange sensation in my head as if I could pass out. The sensation happened just few times, once after hot shower, and I remember I was late to eat. I had to be careful and eat every 3 hours around the clock. Good snack before bed.
